A Drama Teacher teaches dramatic art skills to elementary and secondary school students. Commonly produces plays, helps direct productions, and instructs and aids students in acting, costuming, lighting, stage management and set design. Usually requires previous theatre experience.
Northern Virginia Performing Arts (NOVAPA) is seeking engaging, dependable Class Instructors to teach performing-arts classes for children and teenagers at our Leesburg, Virginia location. We are looking for instructors in one or more of the following areas: Acting Musical theatre Vocal performance Dance and movement Audition preparation Improvisation Technical theatre Other specialized performing-arts subjects
Responsibilities:
Plan and teach structured, age-appropriate classes. Create a welcoming environment where students are known, challenged, protected, and prepared. Begin and end classes on time. Provide clear instruction, demonstrations, and constructive feedback. Adapt instruction for different experience levels and learning needs. Maintain appropriate classroom management and professional boundaries. Take attendance and promptly report absences, injuries, behavioral concerns, or safety issues. Communicate professionally with NOVAPA's administrative team. Follow NOVAPA's curriculum, child-safety policies, and staff procedures. Participate in required orientations and training.
Qualifications:
Experience teaching, directing, coaching, or performing in the relevant discipline. Strong communication and classroom-management skills. Dependability and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively with children and teenagers. Ability to accept direction and work as part of a collaborative team. Evening and/or weekend availability. Must have reliable transportation. Degree or formal training in theatre, music, dance, education, or a related field is preferred but not required when supported by substantial professional experience. All selected candidates must complete NOVAPA's background-screening process, child-safety training, and required onboarding before beginning work.
