American Transportation is seeking an experienced State Instructor for School Bus Drivers to join our Thousand Oaks' team. This is more than just a training role—it's an opportunity to shape the future of safe student transportation while leading and mentoring the next generation of professional school bus drivers. As a State Instructor, you'll be the cornerstone of our safety culture, developing comprehensive training programs, conducting hands-on instruction, and ensuring every driver meets the highest standards of professionalism and safety. Your Role & Responsibilities Training & Instruction Design, develop, and implement cutting-edge initial and recurrent training programs for all transportation personnel Deliver engaging classroom instruction covering California transportation laws, regulations, and safety protocols Provide behind-the-wheel training to applicants and current drivers, ensuring mastery of vehicle operations Develop and conduct regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meetings to maintain awareness and compliance Create effective lesson plans using proven teaching techniques for both classroom and practical applications Leadership & Supervision Supervise and mentor driver trainers, establishing clear objectives, standards, and performance accountability Foster an environment that encourages input, feedback, and continuous improvement
Essential Skills & CompetenciesTechnical Expertise:
Deep knowledge of California laws, regulations, and rules governing passenger transportation Understanding of carrier, instructor, and driver responsibilities and liabilities Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and transportation-specific software Computer literacy in word processing and database management
Professional Skills:
Exceptional leadership and interpersonal communication abilities Outstanding organizational and group presentation skills Advanced multi-tasking and time management capabilities Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking Methods for building self-confidence in public speaking and operational skills
Schedule & Work Environment Primary Schedule:
Day Shift (Monday-Friday)
Occasional Requirements:
Some weekend work may be required for special training sessions or events
Work Setting:
In-person at our Long Beach location with occasional travel to other sites
Physical Requirements:
Ability to conduct behind-the-wheel training and on-scene accident investigations Required Qualifications
MUST HAVE
(Non-Negotiable): California State School Bus Instructor Certificate (Active and current) Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and School Bus Endorsements 3+ years of experience as a School Bus Driver 3+ years of experience as a School Bus Instructor/Trainer Day shift availability (required)
