A Driving Instructor is responsible for teaching students the rules of the road and the safe way to handle an automobile or motorcycle. This may involve both classroom and/or behind the wheel instruction. They are required to remain up to date with their regional and national traffic laws to insure proper curriculum and demonstration. Some inform their students on the process to obtain a valid driver's license in their region or nation.

P01721 Qualifications Required High School Diploma/GED 2 Years Class A CDL Driving Experience General Summary The truck driving trainer will assist the truck driving program director to support the overall instructional process. The duties of the trainer will be to oversee the over the road and driver training range. The trainer will assist with the scheduling of students for testing and observations and will also be accountable for the equipment to create an efficient use of all truck resources. Trainers will assist, observe and evaluate students as they accomplish driving maneuvers on the range and over the road. Trainers will assist with classroom instruction by preparing and giving presentations of instructional materials, which are scheduled and approved by the program director. The trainer will evaluate and assess trainees' skills and performance, ensuring they are prepared for on-the-road responsibilities in a safe and compliant manner. Additionally, the trainer will provide both in-cab and classroom training on topics such as logbook management, vehicle maintenance, routes, and regulations (e.g., hours of service, ELD use, DOT requirements). Trainers will perform these duties and tasks in accordance with the college policies and procedures. The trainers will be asked to facilitate other duties as assigned by the program director.
Additional requirements upon hire:
Pass the Nebraska DMV state standards to be a Nebraska Driver Training School Instructor and a Third-Party Tester, to include an approved background DMV screening. Essential Functions Assist students with their BTW (Behind the wheel), driving range, and public roadways experience. Essential Functions Facilitate and interpret D.O.T. rules and regulations as applicable to the truck driving program. Essential Functions Maintain, oversee, and provide evaluations in safety by coordinating vehicle movements and driving exercises on the driving range and public roadways. Essential Functions Implement proper truck and trailer daily operations which consist of assisting students in performing pre-trip inspections, start up of trucks in the morning, and ensure proper equipment is with trucks as per D.O.T. rules etc. Essential Functions Perform routine safety inspections and minor maintenance of the college truck fleet. Schedule trucks and trailers for maintenance and repairs. Essential Functions Maintain and be accountable for fleet maintenance records, i.e., enter data onto record forms, check records for scheduled maintenance, store records in computer format etc. Essential Functions Prepare reports and complete daily evaluation forms that document student training performance and progress. Essential Functions Assist the truck driving program director in the instruction and supervision of students' activities in the classroom. Lead and observe students as they complete pre-trip inspections, lead and observe students as they perform various required over the road and range driving maneuvers. Lead and assist the students in correct safe and legal vehicle operations, give presentations of classroom instructional materials as scheduled by the program director. Essential Functions Facilitate and administer the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles Third Party Examination as approved by the Nebraska DMV and scheduled by program director, which will be considered the final exam. Essential Functions May be required to work outside of normal work hours and may be required to travel and have overnight stays as scheduled by the program director.
