Job Description

Welcome to Grayson College. Grayson College is in the heart of Grayson County and provides a vital link for higher education. CDL Behind-the-Wheel Training Instructor Overview:
Grayson College is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced CDL Behind-the-Wheel Training Instructor for the Commercial Driver License program. The CDL BTW Instructor is responsible for hands-on CDL instruction on the training range and public roadways, ensuring students meet all FMCSA proficiency requirements for CDL testing and safe commercial vehicle operation. This role ensures that students receive high-quality instruction aligned with state and federal regulations while promoting safety. This position reports to Grayson College's Director of CDL and Logistics. This is a part-time position and pay will be approximately $32 - $35 per hour based upon experience and endorsements. Teaching hours may be a combination of morning and/or afternoon sessions based upon enrollment and are subject to change.
Responsibilities:
75% Coordinate and deliver BTW instruction (Range and Public Road), scheduling, ELDT curriculum implementation, vehicle maintenance, and compliance documentation. Ensure compliance with Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), FMCSA, TXDOT and other applicable state and federal requirements. Maintain accurate student records.
Range Training:
off-road training focusing on basic vehicle control, backing skills, and vehicle inspection procedures.
Public Road Training:
real-world driving scenarios, such as navigating highways, making turns, and lane changes 10% Works as a team member in the Industrial Technologies Department. 10% Support student learning and program outcomes. 5% Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements preferred Must be 21 years of age or older Minimum two (2) years of commercial driving experience within the past ten (10) years, or meet minimum requirements for instructor licensure Knowledge of current Modified CDL regulations and pre-trip protocols, FMCSA ELDT standards, and industry best practices Ability to effectively communicate, teach, coach, and evaluate students Clean driving record (reviewed on a case-by-case basis if not fully compliant) Ability to pass and maintain: o DOT physical o DOT drug and alcohol screening o Criminal background check (reviewed on a case-by-case basis; second-chance friendly) Must be physically able to climb in/out of trucks, conduct inspections and safely operate CMV Minimum education:
High School Diploma or GED Preferred Qualifications:
Prior CDL instructional experience Previous teaching, training, or supervisory experience Familiarity with
FMCSA ELDT
