Overview Join our dedicated team as a Bus Driver / Afterschool Teacher, where you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe transportation and engaging supervision of children during afterschool hours. This dynamic position combines responsible driving with nurturing educational support, creating a positive environment for students to thrive. You will be responsible for safely transporting children along designated routes, assisting with boarding and disembarking, and providing a caring, structured afterschool experience that promotes learning and behavior management. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young lives while honing your driving and communication skills. Responsibilities Safely operate school buses and transit vehicles in accordance with traffic laws, vehicle codes, and transportation safety regulations. Ensure the safety of all passengers by adhering to emergency response procedures for transportation, emergency stop procedures, and defensive driving techniques. Assist children with boarding and disembarking, including wheelchair assistance and heavy lifting when necessary, ensuring passenger safety at all times. Maintain discipline and manage student behavior through positive behavior management strategies aligned with school policies. Respond quickly to traffic changes and unexpected road conditions to ensure timely arrivals and departures. Conduct pre-trip inspections of vehicles, including checking vehicle condition, safety equipment, and compliance with state and local commercial driving laws. Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and children in multiple languages when needed to foster a welcoming environment. Complete accurate logs of trips, incidents, and vehicle maintenance reports while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. Skills Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or transit bus operation with a strong understanding of transportation safety regulations. Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency response procedures for transportation, and emergency stop procedures. First aid certification (CPR included) along with emergency response training specific to transportation scenarios. Experience working with children or in educational settings; ability to manage student behavior effectively. Strong communication skills in English. Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting students or handling equipment; excellent customer service skills are essential. Familiarity with transportation safety regulations such as passenger safety protocols and student discipline policies. Part time and full time options available.
