the candidate to drive a 12 passenger van to pick up students from area elementary schools (MANDATORY) Position Summary The IDEA Lab Kids STEM Afterschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, engaging, educational, and nurturing environment for children participating in afterschool, day camp, summer camp and birthday party programming. The teacher plans and facilitates age-appropriate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) activities designed to promote creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and curiosity. Teachers are also responsible for active supervision, classroom management, implementation of curriculum, maintaining an organized learning environment, and supporting the overall daily operations of the program. The Afterschool Van/Bus Driver position is responsible for providing safe, reliable transportation for children enrolled in the afterschool program while also supporting the administrative and operational needs of the program. The employee serves as an important connection between our program, participating schools, children, families, and center leadership. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, safety-conscious, professional, and comfortable working directly with school-age children. Transportation responsibilities include completing assigned school pickup routes, maintaining accurate transportation attendance, safely loading and unloading children, conducting required vehicle safety checks, maintaining appropriate supervision, and following all transportation and childcare safety procedures. IDEA Lab Kids-Spring Branch Instructors will be expected to: Plan, prepare, and facilitate age-appropriate STEM activities that encourage inquiry, experimentation, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork. Deliver engaging hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, art, and other enrichment areas as assigned. Follow established curriculum plans while bringing creativity and enthusiasm to daily instruction. Maintain active supervision of children at all times , including during classroom activities, transitions, meals/snacks, restroom transitions, indoor play, and other program activities. Maintain appropriate staff to child ratios and follow applicable childcare licensing requirements and organizational policies. Manage classroom behavior using positive, age-appropriate behavior management and redirection techniques. Establish clear expectations and maintain a respectful, structured, welcoming learning environment. Assist children in resolving conflicts appropriately and model respectful communication. Monitor children's physical and emotional well-being and immediately report significant concerns to the Program Director. Follow established first-aid and emergency procedures and respond appropriately to minor injuries, illnesses, or emergencies. Maintain accurate attendance, sign-in/sign-out, incident, and other required program records. Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, sanitation, organization, and maintenance of program materials. Ensure STEM materials, toys, equipment, and supplies are properly used, cleaned, organized, and stored. Supervise indoor recreational activities while promoting safe and appropriate play. Collaborate professionally with others teachers, administrators, and other team members. Communicate appropriately and professionally with parents and guardians regarding children's experiences, progress, or concerns when authorized to do so. Support children with varying learning styles, developmental needs, abilities, and backgrounds. Follow all organizational policies, Texas childcare licensing requirements applicable to the program, safety procedures, and mandated-reporting responsibilities. Participate in required staff meetings, professional development, training, and licensing-related training. Perform other reasonable duties related to childcare, education, classroom operations, or program needs as assigned by management. Instructors in this role would need to possess: Previous experience working with children in a childcare center, summer camp, school, tutoring program, afterschool program, youth organization, recreational program, or similar environment. An understanding of basic child development and age-appropriate expectations for children. Strong classroom and behavior-management skills. The ability to maintain active supervision while managing multiple children and activities. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Reliability, professionalism, punctuality, and the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team. The ability to engage children using creative, enthusiastic, and interactive teaching methods. A willingness to learn and follow organizational procedures and applicable Texas childcare regulations. The ability to successfully complete all required background checks, training, and employment eligibility requirements applicable to the position. Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification , or willingness to obtain required certification within the timeframe established by IDEA Lab Kids-Spring Branch. Experience working with children with disabilities, developmental differences, special needs, or other individualized learning needs or willing to be trained and learned to best support these children. Experience teaching STEM, coding, robotics, engineering, science, mathematics, or technology-related activities or the willingness to learn. Experience developing or implementing lesson plans and curriculum. Previous experience working in a licensed childcare environment or educational base education (e.i school district).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Transportation & Driving Responsibilities Safely operate an assigned program vehicle to transport children from designated schools to the afterschool program. Arrive at assigned schools on time and follow established transportation routes and pickup schedules. Maintain an accurate transportation roster and verify each child before departing from a school. Follow established procedures when a child expected for transportation is not present at the designated pickup location. Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle. Conduct visual and physical vehicle checks before and after transportation to ensure that no child remains inside the vehicle. Ensure children enter and exit the vehicle safely and at designated locations. Ensure children are appropriately secured using required seat belts, safety restraints, or other equipment as applicable. Maintain appropriate supervision and behavioral expectations while children are being transported. Maintain a calm and professional environment while driving and avoid unnecessary distractions. Follow all traffic laws, transportation policies, school procedures, and applicable childcare requirements. Immediately report accidents, vehicle damage, mechanical concerns, transportation incidents, or safety concerns to management. Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned transportation vehicles. Complete required vehicle inspections and transportation documentation. Ensure required emergency and safety equipment remains available in the vehicle. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, schools, transportation routes, and organizational information. Child Safety & Supervision The safety of children is the highest priority of this position.

The employee is expected to:

Maintain awareness of every child assigned to the transportation route. Verify children using established attendance and transportation procedures. Follow program procedures for transferring children from school personnel into program care. Never leave children unsupervised in a vehicle. Complete required vehicle sweeps following each route. Immediately communicate discrepancies in attendance or transportation. Follow established procedures for emergencies, injuries, illnesses, accidents, or behavioral incidents. Use positive and developmentally appropriate behavior-management techniques. Maintain professional and appropriate interactions with children at all times. Follow applicable mandated-reporting requirements and organizational child-safety policies.

Pay:

Up to $15.00 per hour
