Job Description

Title:
Attendance and Student Success Specialist General Information:

Superintendent or Designee Job Goal:
To promote student success by improving attendance, reducing chronic absenteeism, supporting student well-being, coordinating intervention services, and ensuring compliance with state attendance laws and district policies. The Student Attendance and Student Services Specialist serves as a liaison among schools, families, community agencies, juvenile court, and social service organizations to remove barriers to learning and increase student engagement, attendance, and academic achievement.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to build effective relationships with faculty, staff, students, parents, community agencies, and government organizations. Knowledge of Alabama compulsory attendance laws, residency requirements, and student support services. Skilled in technology and student information systems. Strong organizational, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, family engagement, crisis intervention, and community.
Responsibilities:
Monitor district attendance data and identify students with excessive absences, chronic absenteeism, and truancy. Conduct parent/guardian meetings for attendance concerns and residency verification. Enforce Alabama compulsory attendance laws and Board policies. Develop attendance intervention plans and monitor student progress. Coordinate case management and referrals for at-risk students and families. Collaborate with schools, juvenile court, DHR, law enforcement, and community agencies. Participate on district and school crisis response teams. Maintain accurate records using PowerSchool and other district systems. Provide professional development regarding attendance and student support. Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
Qualifications:
1. A bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited educational institution is preferred. 2. Teaching experience preferred 3. Valid Alabama Driver's License.
