Department/Position:

Under the general supervision of the Director, Outreach and School Relations, the Enrollment Services Advisor provides timely and basic information, transactional, and general enrollment services for students and the campus community through walk-in, email, chat, and phone service requests. The Enrollment Services Toro One-Stop provides general advising for prospective, admitted and enrolled students under the Enrollment Services umbrella, Admission and Recruitment, Financial Aid and Scholarships and Registrars. This position may have some evening and weekend hours.

Overview of Duties and Responsibilities:

Using established guidelines, provides timely, general advising to all inquiring students to ensure that they can successfully navigate university policies and procedures to meet their enrollment goals. Provides routine advising and counsel to prospective and continuing students and their families on general CSUDH admissions process, financial aid and scholarships, new student orientation, registration enrollment processes. Advises, and informs eligible students about available resources, special programs and services such as EOP, AB540, Guardian Scholars, Dreamers, Veterans, Disability Services, etc. When appropriate, work with students (and parents) using strong communication skills to explain university policies, identify student needs, and provide direction in helping students obtain resources and navigate challenges Provide step-by-step instructions to empower students to better utilize online self-service in navigating policies and processes of the university.

Minimum Qualifications:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Equivalent of one (1) year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques The ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned Knowledge of the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned. Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation Interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations

Preferred Qualifications:

Exceptional customer service and communication skills. CSU admission and enrollment policies Effectively manage time, multi-task and manage multiple priorities and make deadlines Accurately assess a prospective students enrollment needs and expectations Effective written communication skills Counseling students and families Present clear and concise information orally and in written reports Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.
