Overview Literacy Volunteers of South Sarasota County (LVSSC) is seeking a friendly, dependable Literacy Services Coordinator to help adults take the first steps toward improving their English reading, writing, and speaking skills. This part-time position is based at a public library in South Sarasota County and involves direct interaction with prospective students. This part-time position requires 8-12 hours per week, scheduled in four-hour shifts during peak library hours. LVSSC provides services on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from our offices located in public libraries. Responsibilities Answer questions from prospective students about LVSSC's services and application process. Administer English language proficiency assessments. Conduct a standard applicant interview. Enter applicant information and individual student progress into LVSSC's information systems. Follow through on assigned tasks and help create a welcoming experience for every person you meet. Requirements We are seeking candidates who enjoy working with people from many backgrounds and cultures and who communicate with patience and warmth. The right person is organized, punctual, careful with information accuracy, and can learn to use computer systems with ease, particularly fluency with Word, Excel, and Google Docs. The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently with little supervision, responds promptly to phone calls and emails, and who brings a positive attitude to every interaction with our students, volunteers, and library visitors.
