POSITION SUMMARY:

The Principal provides strategic and operational leadership for the school, leading the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curricular, instructional, personnel, and schoolwide initiatives aligned with the District mission and strategic plan to support and enhance student learning and outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE:

Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative or Principal Endorsement. Master's degree in educational leadership. Three years of successful secondary administrative and supervisory experience Three years secondary teaching experience. Qualified teacher and principal evaluator. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated digital literacy and ability to effectively use district technology systems and tools for communication, collaboration, data analysis, instructional leadership, and school operations. Ability to facilitate student learning through effective leadership and collaboration. Ability to communicate effectively and accurately, both orally and in writing, in English. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and to address difficult situations with courtesy, tact, discretion, and sound judgment. Ability to effectively present information and respond appropriately to questions. Ability to interpret, analyze, and effectively utilize data to inform decision-making and improve student outcomes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities listed below are representative of the essential functions of the position. The individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, as assigned by the supervisor. Other duties may be assigned. Directs and leads ongoing school improvement by identifying, implementing, and evaluating effective practices that advance student learning, engagement, and school effectiveness. Collaborates with staff and district office personnel to develop policy recommendations for consideration and action by the Board of Education. Establishes and maintains an effective learning environment and confers with staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members regarding school needs, concerns, and opportunities for improvement. Develops and maintains positive relationships with parents/guardians, school volunteers, and outside agencies and serves as liaison between the school building and the broader community. Supervises staff and the evaluation of licensed personnel. Makes employment decisions, including but not limited to hiring, renewal/non-renewal, transfer, assignment, and extracurricular responsibilities. Evaluates performance of Department Chairs/Directors and Assistant Principals and collaborates with them regarding professional growth and development. Oversees building fiscal functions and makes decisions that maximize the effective and efficient use of district resources. Recommends, prepares, and submits the building's annual budget and monitors expenditure of funds. Actively participates in meetings and professional development opportunities, including staff development activities, institute days, department meetings, and other district or school-sponsored events. Attends Board of Education meetings and presents information regarding school accomplishments, initiatives and other topics as requested. Responds to emergency situations with composure, professionalism, and sound judgment to address immediate safety concerns and/or directs the matter to appropriate personnel for resolution. Responds to and communicates with administrators, teachers, parents, guardians, and students in a timely, professional, and appropriate manner, both verbally and in writing. Complies with all Board of Education policies, Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requirements, the Illinois School Code, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) requirements, and other applicable laws and regulations and district requirements.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, such as the ability to read type or handwritten materials. The noise level in the work environment is generally low, but increases greatly during large gatherings of students and staff, such as assemblies, sports and activity competitions, school dances, etc. The employee continuously interacts with students, staff, and the community in a fast-paced work environment. The employee will need to attend events outdoors on a variety of surfaces and be able to travel throughout the community and between district buildings and other schools in the surrounding area.
