Special Education Certification Full Job Description Educational/Experience:
Must hold a Type 75 Administrative License and LBS1 Certification. Knowledge of educational, child development and classroom teaching/management theories with a good understanding of educational and therapeutic interventions is preferred. Experience in a supervisory capacity is preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic school rules and regulations is preferred. Summary of Responsibilities The Principal of Parkland Preparatory Academy coordinates educational, administrative, and counseling activities of the school under the direction of the Program Director.
Essential Functions:
Under the Direction of the Program Director, the Principal Sets the standards of achievement, professionalism and goals for the school. Meets with prospective students and their parents to discuss the school program. Directs the preparation of class schedules, lesson plans, and cumulative records. Observes and evaluates teacher and paraprofessional performance. Participates in the interview and hiring process of school staff. Walks about the school building and property to monitor safety and security. Participates in planning and monitoring school budget. Participates in planning and directing building maintenance. Establishes collaborative relationships with colleagues, consultants, therapists, and administrators. Maintains the required educational certifications and training required of all Parkland Preparatory Academy employees as well as those professional certifications and endorsements required by ISBE. Keeps informed, and actively seeks training in current developments, trends, and instructional best practices which pertain to the overall success of the student by maximizing his or her individual skills and talents. Assists in physically restraining students and/or crisis management when necessitated by student behavior. Organizes team meetings. Recognizes and proactively reacts to conditions which, potentially, may alter the effectiveness of the whole program and/or their specific job responsibilities. Participate in IEP meetings as the administrator and authorized representative to commit services for Parkland Preparatory Academy. Participates in and supports Parkland Preparatory Academy's social emotional program Communicates with district representatives parents/guardians and external consumers in a positive and supportive manner. Organizes, participates and contributes to in-service training and staff development opportunities and provides input and suggestions for future topics and directions. Attends classes, conferences, and other opportunities for learning for personal professional development. Demonstrates knowledge of all procedures related to emergencies and disasters. Participates in discussions in a proactive, professional, and solution focused manner. Confronts issues with other staff honestly and respectfully. Processes incidences to a mutually satisfactory conclusion. Oversees program and behavioral outcomes and interprets results. Use results to modify or adapt current programming.

Skills/Knowledge and Abilities Must lead by example. Must demonstrate tact, resourcefulness, patience, and dedication and react calmly and effectively in emergency situations Must demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, verbally communicate clearly and distinctly in a noisy environment, and be visually observant in dealing with staff, students, and parents. Must project a positive image of the school to the students, parents/guardians, and staff as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude. Must have knowledge of legal obligations for reporting abuse and/or neglect, knowledge of crisis intervention procedures and special education rules and regulations. Must have knowledge of Administrative Code 226 and Part 401 Rules pertaining to special education students and schools. Must have the ability to delegate tasks efficiently among team members and communicate the needs of the student. Must have excellent interpersonal communication, multitasking and management skills. Must have some knowledge of computer operations and proficient in Excel and Word. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, with Parkland students, parents/guardians, supervisors, coworkers, subordinates, support agencies, and a variety of external consumers. Adheres to the policies and procedures of Parkland Preparatory Academy. Pay is commensurate to years experience in Administration and level of education.
