  • Teaching and Learning Context Founded in 1957, Catholic Memorial is a Catholic, private school in Boston, Massachusetts, grounded in the Edmund Rice Christian Brothers tradition.
It serves approximately 600 young men across grades 7-12 from various communities across Massachusetts. Catholic Memorial continues its commitment to an authentic, holistic formation within the parameters of the Catholic Memorial Mission Statement, and its strategic plan. Purpose of the Role The Vice Principal
  • Teaching and Learning leads all aspects of teaching and learning, professional growth, and continuous professional development across the school. The role works closely with the Principal and other Vice-Principals to ensure high-quality education for all students, uphold school values, and drive continuous improvement Key Responsibilities Teaching and Learning Leadership
  • Lead and secure a collaborative school vision for teaching and learning excellence across all grades and subjects
  • Ensure high-quality teaching and learning for all students, evaluating quality across all areas.
  • Develop and implement an annual improvement plan for Teaching and Learning.
  • Lead curriculum development, ensuring alignment with national standards and school objectives.
  • Promote formative assessment and peer lesson observations.
  • Ensure subject and departmental handbooks are in place, reviewed, and updated regularly Performance Management
  • Lead the development and implementation of an effective performance management process.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the PM process, suggesting improvements Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
  • Develop and implement a school CPD policy aligned with the School Improvement Plan.
  • Identify training needs, opportunities, and monitor costs.
  • Lead all aspects of CPD, including staff training, induction, and transition.
  • Manage the integrated PG calendar and professional coaching/mentoring programs.
  • Lead the Professional Support process and Whole School Planning Days Strategic Leadership
  • Review the Teaching and Learning and Professional Growth Policy biannually.
  • Actively seek out training opportunities meeting school priorities.
  • Lead accreditation processes (e.g., CIS, WASC) Collaboration and Support
  • Work with the Principal and other Vice-Principals to provide clear direction for subject-based CPD.
  • Identify and develop internal training opportunities, including sharing best practice Skills and Competencies
  • Strong strategic leadership and vision for teaching and learning.
  • Expertise in curriculum design and assessment.
  • Ability to lead professional development and performance management.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to school values and inclusive, respectful education Workload
  • Teaching load: 5 lessons per week This role is pivotal in shaping the school's academic culture, ensuring pedagogical excellence, and fostering a professional environment where all staff can grow and students achieve their potential.
Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Education or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching or administrative experience in middle or secondary education
  • Demonstrated success in leading and developing administrative teams
  • Proven ability to contribute strategically to institutional planning and operations across multiple functional areas
  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the ability to articulate and advance the Catholic mission
  • Deep understanding of adolescent male development and effective strategies for educating young men
  • Proven experience in curriculum development, faculty supervision, and student formation
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders — students, families, faculty, staff, alumni, and the broader community
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a robust presence at school events, including evenings and weekends, demonstrating commitment to the full life of the school community
Salary Range:
$ 85,000
  • $120,000
