SPECIAL EDUCATION TEAM CHAIRPERSON TYPE

REPORTS TO
Director of Special Education
OBJECTIVE
The Special Education Team Chairperson will chair evaluation TEAMS for all students both in-house and those students in out-of-district placements. The Special Education Team Chairperson should work with the school community to build a learning climate that allows all students to meet their highest learning potential.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Serve as evaluation TEAM chairperson for initial referrals and re-evaluations as well as out-of-district placements Assist the Director of Special Education to return out-of-district students Assist the Director of Special Education in increasing inclusion programs Maintain accurate figures on caseload assignments for teachers and support personnel to assist in maintaining adequate staffing needs Assist regular education teachers in making accommodations and modifications in curriculum and instruction Maintain compliance in all Special Education timelines and regulations Maintain compliance and standards of excellence for professional performance and program development Complete all reports in a timely manner Attend after school meetings when requested Work cooperatively with the regular education staff Attend professional conferences and workshops Meet with principals, as needed, to discuss special education issues and regulations Establish by personal example a standard of excellence that will inspire others Assume other duties/responsibilities as directed by the Special Education Director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Ability to be flexible to work with parents, teachers, students and administrators to effect desired outcomes.
WORKING CONDITIONS
the Special Education Team Chairperson must be available for after school and evening meetings when necessary The Special Education Team Chairperson must be able to work effectively with teachers, parents, students, principal and other administrators The Special Education Team Chairperson must be able to regularly travel among school buildings.
SUCCESS FACTORS
Willingness to cooperate and work with the Special Education Director and others as an integral member of the special education team Ability to acknowledge problems and to resolve them in positive ways Ability to set high personal standards
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 1.
Certified as a Teacher of Students with Special Needs or School Adjustment Counselor or LSW or Guidance Counselor 2. Membership in professional association(s) preferred.
