July 1, 2026 Organizational Relationship/Line of Authority Directly Responsible to the Superintendent of Schools. District Information Marlborough Public Schools is seeking a visionary and driven Middle School Principal for the 1LT Charles W. Whitcomb School. As a district, we proudly serve a diverse student population of 4,360 students, including 33% English learners and over 60% of students for whom English is not their first language. We seek a leader who can cultivate a shared vision of impactful teaching and learning while nurturing a school culture of high expectations and continuous growth.

Job Summary:
The Principal assumes full administrative responsibility for the operation, climate, and academic success of the Whitcomb School. The Principal provides educational leadership for the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by cultivating a shared vision that makes teaching and learning the central focus of the school; ensures a safe, efficient, and effective learning environment, implementing appropriate curriculum, staffing, and scheduling; establishes and maintains partnerships with families, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support the mission of the school and district; and nurtures a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning for staff.
Job Duties:
Primary duties include:
Instructional Leadership:
Leading and supporting educators to develop standards-based, well-structured lessons with effective teaching strategies and practices for a diverse student population. Modeling and setting high expectations for quality of content, student effort and student work and supports educators to consistently uphold these expectations.
Data-Driven Decision Making:
Analyzing a range of data sources to inform instruction, interventions, and school-wide improvements. Reflecting on results and continuously improving professional practice for a meaningful impact on school and district goals and focus areas.
District Goal Alignment:
Supporting initiatives in Student Achievement, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism (ABAR), Restorative Justice, and English Learner (EL) Instruction. Collaborating to develop and manage a fiscally responsible budget that aligns with the school and district vision, mission, and goals.
Operational Management:
Designing schedules that maximize blocks of time on learning and eliminates unnecessary interruptions to instruction. Assuring plans, procedures, and routines are in place for an orderly and efficient transition of students for arrival, dismissal, meals, class transitions, assemblies, events and recess. Ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment by supervising facilities, custodial, clerical, and cafeteria staff. Planning and supervising an emergency evacuation and preparedness program.
Community Engagement:
Fostering culturally sensitive partnerships with families, proactively addressing concerns and removing barriers to involvement. Collaborating with families to address student needs, utilizing a variety of available resources within the school, district and community. Setting clear expectations for and supporting educators to regularly engage families in respectful, culturally sensitive, two-way communication to support learning at school and home and to provide prompt, thoughtful responses to families.
Staff Development:
Managing the hiring, supporting induction, and leading the evaluation process for all building staff to ensure high performance and professional growth. Ensuring staff collaborative time to be most effective and setting expectations for teamwork and collaboration. Planning and providing aligned professional development to support teaching and learning. Planning and leading well-run and engaging meetings with a clear purpose resulting in productive conversations about important school matters.
Qualifications:
Licensed as a Secondary School Principal by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in Massachusetts covering grades 6-8.

Endorsement on license. Minimum of a Master's Degree with graduate work in educational administration, curriculum development, supervision, and/or evaluation. Can demonstrate a minimum of 3-5 years successful experience as a principal, assistant principal, or comparable administrative position, preferably at the middle school level. Can demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a teacher, preferably at the middle school level. Bi-lingual (Portuguese and/or Spanish) Strongly Preferred Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
