(12) Months/260 Days Organizational Relationship/Line of Authority Directly Responsible to the Superintendent of Schools. School Information Marlborough Public Schools is seeking a visionary and driven High School Principal for Marlborough High School. As a district, we proudly serve a diverse student population of 4,360 students, including 33% English learners and over 60% of students for whom English is not their first language. Marlborough Public Schools in the City of Marlborough is a district served by an early childhood center, four-grade K-5 elementary buildings (Goodnow, Jaworek, Kane and Richer Schools), one grade 6-8 building (Whitcomb School) and a high school serving grades 9-12. We seek a leader who can cultivate a shared vision of impactful teaching and learning while nurturing a school culture of high expectations and continuous growth. Job Summary The Principal is a key leader in shaping the future of the Marlborough Public Schools providing educational leadership for the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by cultivating a shared vision that makes teaching and learning the central focus of the school.Job Duties Instructional Leadership :
Lead and support educators in delivering grade level standard-based instruction and effective teaching strategies. Model and set high expectations for quality content, student effort and achievement, engagement, and behavior. Build and support educational pathways for student success. Support initiatives in Student Achievement, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), Anti-Bias/Anti-Racism (ABAR), Restorative Justice and English Learner (EL) and Special Education.Staff Development and Supervision :
Support staff in professional growth through feedback, evaluations, and collaborative team building. Plan and provide professional development to support teaching and learning aligned with school and/or district goals. Allow for staff collaborative time to be most effective and set expectations for teamwork and collaboration. Follow the Marlborough Evaluation Process for staff, meet evaluation deadlines and process and hold all building administrators to the same standard. Monitor and assess staff progress towards job performance and provide feedback for continuous improvement. Provide building-level leadership in the hiring process of staff and consistently identify for hire effective staff who can be successful in their roles. Provide recommendations to the superintendent for the selection, retention, and promotion of personnel assigned to the school.Data-Driven Decisions :
Use data to inform instructional practices, identify interventions, and drive continuous improvement for both students and staff. Use and identify a range of appropriate data sources and effectively analyze the data for decision-making purposes. Lead and implement decisions.School Operations :
Oversee daily operations, including scheduling, facilities, emergency preparedness, and maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. Assure plans, procedures, and routines are in place for an orderly and efficient transition of students for arrival, dismissal, meals, class transitions, assemblies and events. Supervise and support operational systems including building custodial, clerical, cafeteria and other staff to present the building as a clean, attractive, welcoming and safe environment for students, staff and families. Collaborate to develop a fiscally responsible budget for the high school that aligns with the school and district goals. Manage expenses consistent with those goals and allocated resources.High School Requirements:
Adhere to state, federal, and local regulations, district policies and procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Complete state and federal reports as necessary. Facilitate high school accreditation. Ensure successful implementation of state and local high school graduation requirements.Community Engagement :
Build strong relationships with families, community organizations, and stakeholders. Foster inclusive, culturally sensitive communication with all families. Actively collaborate with others to identify and remove barriers to family involvement for all families. Engage with families to address student needs, utilizing a variety of available resources within the school, district and community. Set clear expectations for educators and administrators to regularly engage families in respectful, culturally sensitive, two-way communication to support learning at school and home and to provide prompt, thoughtful responses to families.Leadership :
Serve on a district leadership team that drives district-wide instructional priorities. Lead the school in alignment with district goals, collaborate with district leadership, and contribute to district-wide initiatives. Plan and lead well-run and engaging meetings with a clear purpose resulting in productive conversations. Demonstrates strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Use a non-confrontational approach in conflict and disagreement, seeing them as opportunities for learning and growth and work to move conversations forward in a respectful, constructive manner. Build consensus around critical school decisions. Drive, make and implement decisions. Assumes responsibility for any other duties as indicated by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee and policies of the Marlborough School Committee.Qualifications:
Must have strong leadership, communication and organizational skills Licensed as a Principal covering grades 9-12 by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) in Massachusetts.DESE SEI
Endorsement. Minimum of a Master's Degree with graduate work in educational administration, curriculum development, supervision, and/or evaluation. Can demonstrate a minimum of 3-5 years successful experience as a principal, assistant principal, or comparable administrative position, preferably at the high school level. Can demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a teacher, preferably at the high school level. Prior experience and success working with a culturally diverse student population preferred. Bi-lingual (Portuguese and/or Spanish) Strongly Preferred Successfully complete a background check including but not limited to, a CORI, SORI and fingerprint check. Demonstrates sound judgment reflecting integrity and fairness, protects student, family and staff confidentiality appropriately. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.Salary Range:
