Job Description

Graduate Advising Specialist
Job Responsibilities Academic Advising Provide comprehensive academic advising services to online and in-person graduate students, as well as undergraduate students interested in pursuing graduate studies, using electronic and other communication methods that accommodate the needs of working professionals. Serve as a resource and advocate for students, addressing their academic concerns and referring them to appropriate resources and support services. Collaborate with campus departments including admissions and various academic students to help returning students transition to the campus community. Develop online orientation videos and similar resources for graduate students. Assist the Director of Student Success with updating yearly sample plans and enrollment guidelines. Serve on appropriate committees, represent department at campus-wide events, and participate in ongoing professional development. Advise approximately 50 freshmen advisees in addition to graduate students. Serve as a secondary advisor for Returning Students. Graduate Program Coordination Collaborate with campus partners to coordinate and facilitate the advising process. Assist Graduate Admission Counselor with recruiting students to Truman graduate programs. Organize and conduct presentations, workshops, and information sessions. Develop and deliver workshops tailored to enhance graduate student success. Develop and maintain a graduate student online orientation. Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Strong ability to work independently. Intellectual curiosity. Ability to work collegially and independently. Excellent written, oral, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree. Experience working with college students in an advising capacity.
