The College of Arts and Media invites applications for a Academic Advisor II to serve as primary academic advisor for students in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance . This position will meet with students by appointment and on a walk-in basis, providing academic advising, registration assistance and general information. Advise prospective, incoming, new, transfer, and continuing students on academic program planning, course selection, degree requirements, and progress toward graduation. Evaluate general education, transfer credit, course substitutions, and other degree requirements. Maintain knowledge of undergraduate degree requirements, academic policies, and campus resources to effectively support students and facilitate connections to appropriate programs and services. Utilize student information systems and advising technologies, including GrizPortal, DegreeWorks, Navigate, Banner 9, Slate, and Tableau, to support student advising and success. Document student interactions and advising activities in Navigate and use student data to identify students who may benefit from additional support or outreach. Support students with academic appeals, withdrawal petitions, reinstatement plans, graduation applications, Max Credit Financial Aid applications, and other academic processes. Serve as a liaison between students and academic departments, faculty, student support programs, and other campus units. Bachelor's degree and at least two years of academic advising experience or related experience in a higher education setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of student development theory and college student success and persistence research and practices. Demonstrated commitment to supporting student success and the ability to work effectively with students experiencing difficult, sensitive, or complex situations. Ability to exercise sound judgment in assessing student needs, providing accurate, consistent, and timely information, developing appropriate plans of action, and making effective referrals. Ability to advise students on a broad range of academic matters, including course selection, degree requirements, withdrawals, reinstatement, academic progress, and referrals to support services such as counseling and tutoring. Knowledge of FERPA guidelines and the ability to communicate appropriately with students, parents, and other concerned parties in accordance with federal regulations. Demonstrated ability to establish rapport with students, listen actively, demonstrate patience and empathy, facilitate academic decision-making, monitor academic progress, and maintain composure when managing stressful or challenging situations. Proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and the ability to learn and effectively use additional student information systems and technologies. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and campus partners. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of UM and MUS academic policies and procedures. Familiarity with UM School of Music and Dance curricular requirements. Knowledge of Banner Student Information System, and Navigate.

Work Schedule:
Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year.
