Work Schedule:
40 hours per week, days vary, occasional evenings and weekend work required.
Hiring Salary Range :
$68,154 - $86,767
Full Salary Range :

Brief Description of Work:
The Special Programs Superintendent's primary purpose is to supervise, plan, coordinate, and evaluate the activities, operations, and staffing of special recreation sections within the Parks and Recreation Department, including aquatics, specialized recreation (Adapted & Inclusive Recreation), senior services, Greensboro youth council, aquatics, and certain special events. The individual in this position works closely with staff, outside agencies, and the general public to develop strategies for efficient program delivery and facility operations that work towards city and departmental goals and meet the diverse needs of the residents of Greensboro. The employee in this position identifies opportunities for improving service delivery methods and procedures as well as resource needs. The job responsibilities also include providing highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Community of Recreation Service Manager and coordinating to development and implementation of goals, objectives, and policies. Selecting, training, evaluating, and motivating both benefitted and non-benefitted recreation personnel and a variety of program areas are key components of this job. The successful candidate in this position participates in the development and administration of program budgets, forecasts funds, and monitors and approves expenditures. Must have knowledge of principles and practice of recreation program planning, policies, and operational needs and have experience evaluating program services. This job is Exempt and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with 4 or more years of increasingly responsible experience in parks and recreation or a closely related field "OR" an equivalency of an Associate's degree with 6 or more years experience in parks and recreation or a closely related field 4+ years of prior experience supervising a staff (i.e. direct reports under your supervision) First Aid/CPR certification ( "OR" ability to attain within six months) Prior experience with budgeting and planning Microsoft Office Software experience (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint) Valid Driver's License An Ideal Candidate Would Also Possess (Preferred Qualifications) : Bachelor's degree or higher in Parks & Recreation Management, Public Administration, Business Management, Physical Education or a closely related field. Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certified Pool and Spa Operator (CPO) Prior experience working with vulnerable populations Prior experience with recreation management software
