The Assistant Director of Transfer and Adult Student Services will provide leadership for transfer recruitment, community college partnerships, transfer and adult learner programs and events, graduation services, transfer articulation, academic progress, and operational improvement. This position plays a significant role in advancing WSSU's transfer enrollment strategy by developing strong recruitment pipelines and sustainable partnerships with community colleges and other transfer-serving institutions. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with Admissions, the Registrar's Office, Academic Affairs, academic departments, Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, community colleges, and other internal and external partners. Responsibilities of the Assistant Director of Transfer and Adult Student Services include: Provide leadership for the development, coordination, implementation, and assessment of comprehensive programs and events for prospective and enrolled transfer students and adult learners. Oversee staff, services, policies, and programs that enhance the experience of non-traditional students, including transfer student, adult learners, readmits, and other students with unique educational backgrounds. Develop an annual calendar of transfer and adult learner recruitment, transition, engagement, retention, and degree-completion programs. Coordinate signature recruitment events such as Transfer Preview Days, Transfer Open Houses, Instant Decision Days, community college recruitment events, adult learner information sessions, and other enrollment-focused programs. Build relationships with community colleges, workforce development organizations, and employers to establish strong transfer pipelines and pathways. Represent WSSU at transfer fairs, community college visits, adult education events, and other outreach opportunities to promote the university's offerings. Coordinate transition programming, including transfer orientation activities, welcome programs, academic preparation workshops, and new transfer student engagement initiatives. Develop initiatives to promote a sense of community for adult learners, foster engagement in campus life, peer mentoring programs, and student success groups. Coordinate academic success workshops, transfer student appreciation activities, networking opportunities, resource fairs, career preparation programs, and degree-completion initiatives. Provide specialized support for adult learners, including guidance on recognizing prior learning, credit for military experience, and flexible course scheduling options. Offer tailored advising for adult learners returning to school, balancing academic, professional, and personal responsibilities. Review degree audits for transfer students and adult learners to ensure accurate course equivalencies and credit transfer, and to guide students through the process of selecting courses that align with their academic goals. Conduct thorough audits of students' academic records to verify they are on track to meet degree requirements and provide advice on any academic deficiencies or course substitutions. Develop programming specifically responsive to the needs of adult learners, including students balancing employment, family responsibilities, and academic obligations. Collaborate with campus support services, such as tutoring, counseling, career services, and financial aid, to ensure students have the resources needed to overcome academic and personal challenges. Monitor academic performance and retention data to identify at-risk students and implement timely interventions to increase graduation rates. Collect, analyze, and report on recruitment, retention, and graduation data for transfer and adult learners, using the data to improve student services and inform future strategies. Evaluate participation and program outcomes and use student feedback and data to continuously improve transfer and adult learner programming. Prepare and present regular reports on the effectiveness of transfer and adult learner recruitment and retention programs to university leadership. Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education Strong interpersonal, communication, and counseling skills, with the ability to connect with a varied population of adult learners and transfer students. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to analyze academic records, degree audits, and transcripts, ensuring proper credit transfer and degree completion. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and student management systems, with the ability to learn new systems as needed.
