Los Alamos High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Assistant Principal to provide visionary leadership and foster an environment of academic excellence, social-emotional well-being, and civic responsibility. This position will assist the principal and share oversight of District Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, the school's operations, curriculum and instruction, climate, staff development, safety and community and community relations. The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher, principal, and instructional leader with a passion for working with diverse student populations and leading by example.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as the administrative head of the school in the absence of the principal Assist with staff evaluations. Manage building staff, including class schedules. Supervise student attendance in accordance with policy and related procedures. Assist in scheduling special events during the school day. Assist with coordinating the development of the master teaching schedule. Provide general supervision to students. Supervise and coordinate support staff. Maintain confidentiality of work performed. Interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, supporting employees, and resolving complaints. Provide visionary leadership for all HS CTE programs to ensure they meet New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) standards. Serve as the primary administrator for Perkins V, NM Next Gen funding and other state CTE grants, ensuring meticulous documentation and compliance. Cultivate relationships with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), UNM-Los Alamos, and local businesses to create internships, dual-credit opportunities, and advisory boards. Act as a consultant for Middle School administration to align 7th/8th-grade career exploration courses with High School pathways. Track and report CTE performance indicators, including industry certifications earned and post-secondary placement. Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
New Mexico Administrative License (Level 3B Instructional Leader) or eligibility for certification required.EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE
Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of school teaching experience (CTE setting preferred) and at least 3 years of school leadership experience, preferably as an Assistant Principal or Principal in a secondary school setting.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to communicate clearly in oral and written form. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret educational research, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies, or staff.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate and chart education data, figures, amounts, and budget estimates. Knowledge and experience analyzing budgets and expenditures. OTHER SKILLS andABILITIES
Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, and the community. Strong understanding of New Mexico educational standards, policies, and initiatives. Ability to perform duties in compliance with District, State, and Federal requirements and Board policies. Ability to apply knowledge from secondary Special Education settings to meet students' unique needs in High School. Knowledge of site-based decision-making and collective bargaining. Proven ability to develop and implement school improvement plans. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. Ability to manage school operations, budgets, and personnel effectively. Commitment to an inclusive environment, with an understanding of Northern New Mexico's cultural context.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position requires: the ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, occasionally carry (up to 50 pounds), push, and pull. In this position, there is a mix of standing, prolonged sitting, and walking. Requires ability to perceive sound correctly, and ability to tolerate moderate to high levels of noise.
