Possess or be eligible for a valid New Mexico Administration License Masters Degree Have comprehensive knowledge of IDEA Must possess clear understanding of LRE (Least Restrictive Environment) and Free and Appropriate Education Must possess clear understanding of Gifted services under New Mexico Special Education regulations Possess knowledge of current trends in special education Possess knowledge of scientific, research based reading .and math programs Have a clear understanding of the
SAT/MLSS
process, diagnostic testing, and IEP processes Knowledge and/or experience of SEAS formerly known as Special Education Automation Software Knowledge and/or experience with state special education grants. Knowledge and/or experience with the child find process. Knowledge and/or experience with NOVA coding of special education Knowledge and/or experience with state and national testing as it relates to special education with emphasis on implementing accommodations. Knowledge and/or experience with contracted services. Understanding of HQT process and HQT waiver as it relates to special education. Understanding of ADA Americans with Disabilities Act.
PREFERRED
Five years' administrative experience Masters Degree in Special Education Administration

OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION
In coordination with principals, parents, students, and teachers, will ensure the process for Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for all students with disabilities and giftedness is implemented; oversee special education programs to ensure academic and functional growth for all students with disabilities.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Socorro Schools Director of Special Education Programs will work directly with the principals to ensure effective delivery of services for students in need of specialized education including gifted students.
DUTIES:
Providing technical assistance and support to principals in the area of LRE and the continuum of services Oversee district pre-school program Apply for all special education state related grants Oversee and direct the IEP process including attending specific high need IEPs Work with guidance and campus principals to facilitate special education courses including inclusion, self-contained, and other courses or avenues of instruction Supporting the implementation of gifted curricula as well as reading programs for students with severe reading difficulties Support special education teachers in the use of data to drive instruction Maintaining knowledge of current research in the area of special education and gifted education and sharing this knowledge with Socorro Schools principals and teachers In collaboration with Compliance, Wellness, and principals, ensuring compliance with the IEP process Prepare reports and records as requested and required by PED and the Superintendent Maintain a high level of communication at all times with special education teachers, principals, and superintendent Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent Responsible for
MLSS/SAT
Coordination Oversee school nurses and nurse assistants Oversee ELL and bilingual services. Oversee Project AWARE

Work year will be in accord with current board approved year round schedule. Based on Training, Experience and Job Responsibilities, this employee will be placed on the Administrative Salary Schedule
EVALUATION
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education's policy on evaluation of administrative personnel
PHYSICAL LEVEL RATING
This position will require the employee to function at a "medium" physical capacity as defined by Workman's Compensation statutes. "Medium" physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
