Reporting to the Director of Academic Advisement & Student Success, the Early Outreach Academic Advisor serves as a key member of the student success team, leading proactive outreach and intervention efforts that support student persistence, retention, and degree completion. This position facilitates early alert initiatives, academic recovery efforts, and SUNY Reconnect advising while maintaining a student advising caseload. The Advisor develops and executes data-informed outreach strategies to identify and support students experiencing academic, financial, personal, or administrative barriers to success. Working collaboratively with Admissions, Financial Aid, the Registrar, faculty, academic schools, and student support services, this role helps students navigate transitions into, through, and back to college. The Advisor also serves as the campus liaison for the Academic Recovery Program , ensuring a consistent student experience and coordinating support for students seeking to regain good academic standing. In addition, the position provides advising and case management services for students participating in the SUNY Reconnect initiative and supports institutional Academic Momentum and student success efforts. Primary Responsibilities Coordinate and manage early alert systems and proactive student outreach initiatives. Provide case management and individualized support for at-risk students. Serve as the primary advisor for students participating in SUNY Reconnect and reentry/readmission programs. Develop and implement intervention strategies designed to increase student persistence and retention. Collaborate with Admissions to support students transitioning back to college and ensure a seamless reentry process. Serve as liaison for the Academic Recovery Program and coordinate support services with academic schools and campus partners. Monitor student progress and connect students with appropriate academic, financial, wellness, and support resources. Support Academic Momentum and other student success initiatives. Maintain an advising caseload and assist students in developing academic plans aligned with their educational and career goals. Interpret and communicate institutional policies, academic requirements, degree pathways, transfer regulations, and graduation requirements. Present workshops, seminars, and success programming related to academic achievement, registration, persistence, and student engagement. Refer students to campus resources including Counseling & Health Services, Academic Achievement Center, Career & Transfer Services, Financial Aid, and other support offices as appropriate. Participate in orientation, admissions events, Accepted Student Day programs, and other enrollment-related initiatives. Assist with registration support and outreach to incoming and continuing students. Maintain accurate student records and utilize advising technologies such as Degree Works, Banner, and early alert platforms. Teach First Year Experience (UNIV 100) and/or Student Success (UNIV 101) up to 4 credit hours per semester Contribute to assessment and continuous improvement efforts within Academic Advisement and Student Success. Foster collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administrators. Demonstrate effective time management, organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in psychology, education or related field Experience working with and advising college level students Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as computer proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in related field Working knowledge of Banner System Working knowledge of degree evaluation system (Degree Works or similar product) Familiarity with financial aid guidelines and its impact on academic advisement

Starting at $57,651
Work Schedule:
Full-time, Mon - Fri 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Schedule flexibility is required, including a rotating schedule of evening and weekend shifts based on operational needs Reports to: Director of Academic Advisement & Student Success This is a 12-month position
