Job Description

Administers the school in the absence of the principal. Assists the principal in managing the school. Assists the principal in improving the educational program. Develops a working relationship with the community. Makes a daily check of students' attendance cards. Assists homeroom teachers with attendance problems during the year. Takes proper disciplinary measures in cases of class absence. Checks class attendance as reported by teachers on daily attendance sheets. Reports to teachers on disposition of serious cases of class absence. Checks on students' truancy from classes during the day. Keeps a record of morning tardiness of students, providing proper discipline if warranted and notification of parents and principal in extreme cases. Assesses detention for school and class truancies. Acquaints cafeteria monitors with responsibilities and duties in the lunchroom. Facilitates the functioning of lunch lines and supervise proper conduct therein. Supervises the dismissal of students at the end of the lunch period. Obtains substitutes for aides when necessary. Aids in general control of students during lunch. Assigns locks and lockers to students. Keeps record of lock combinations and corrects problems associated with locks. Assists students in correcting locker malfunctions and responding to theft charges. Assists the principal in preparation of the master schedule of the assignment for classes, teachers, and students. Supervises the acquisition and distribution of teaching supplies and equipment. Provides for the preparation of a master plan for fire drills, air raid drills and go-home drills. Assists in supervision of all drills. Assists in preparation of the faculty handbook. Handles student discipline as needed. Discusses chronic discipline problems with teachers. Assists principal with students and resulting parental conferences. Works with psychologist on serious student discipline. Administers and supervises after school detention program. Assists principal in ordering Regents examinations from the State Education Department. Develops examination schedule for students to minimize conflicts in exams. Develops proctoring schedule for teachers to provide proper supervision on all examinations. Supervises in-school suspension process. Assists, supervises, plans and schedules assembly programs. Assists principal in preparing bulletins for end of marking period. In the event of the principal's absence, attend monthly Superintendent's Meetings, Department Head Meetings, Curriculum Development Meetings, and General Faculty Meetings. Assists the principal in the organization and operation of teacher in-service programs. Conducts full period teacher evaluation, teacher critique, follow-up and provides teacher observation written evaluation. Supervises the library service program in school. Supervises substitute teachers. Prepares and submits any school report as requested by the Superintendent. Promotes cooperation among teachers in all aspects of the school programs. Coordinates guidance, school health, and home and school visitor services. Refers items and situations relating to building maintenance. Counsels and assists teachers. Assists in the preparation of requisitions for equipment and supplies. Coordinates supervision during assemblies. Coordinates the supervision of lavatories and hallways. Assumes any other duties that may be assigned by the principal. Assumes any other duties that may be assigned by the Superintendent of Schools.
