The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Athletic Director for the 2026-2027 school year to manage and coordinate the school district athletic activities and sports programs to promote athletics and physical fitness as positive extra-curricular activities, and to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate and share in the benefits of the district's athletic programs. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state of the art buildings in west-central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the YouMedia Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats! As an Athletic Director, you are required to: Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university Knowledge and understanding of the overall operations of an athletic program Member of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association Valid teaching license preferred Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) certification preferred Experience in athletics (as Varsity Head Coach) at the university or high school level Administrative experience As an Athletic Director, you will: Evaluates the extra-curricular athletic programs and engages in long-range planning Assesses department needs through consultation with students, staff, parents and develops policy recommendations for the Board's consideration and action Maintains files and records required by policy, regulation, law and good practice Attends all mandatory meetings including but not limited to (GWOC, school coaches, pre-season parent meetings) Implements board policies and advises the administration on legal matters related to athletics. Develops and updates brochures, handbooks and policy manuals Conducts research related to athletic programs Keeps the school community informed about the extracurricular athletic programs Presents a positive image of Springfield City School District through professional and ethical conduct Engages in fiscal planning- both short and long-range Assists in preparing and implementing the school system budget and coordinates department purchasing Recommends capital improvements and negotiated contracts and agreements Formulates specifications to be incorporated into contracts and bids Serves as a consultant in the selection of supplies and materials Supervises all ticket sales and fundraising events connected with the athletic programs and assumes responsibility for proper handling and accounting of monies involved Administers the receipt and disbursement of student activity cash funds Conducts salary and wage surveys Supervises and guides the fiscal planning/execution of all parent volunteer organizations supporting high school and middle school athletic programs Prepares schedules for use of facilities Issues timely announcements of upcoming events and deadlines Organizes, schedules and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics in conjunction with GWOC commissioner and coaches Hires officials, team physicians, supervisors and police, for supervision of home contests. Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants Verifies each athlete's eligibility for participation in each sport Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs, as appropriate Provides for emergency health care and first aid treatment Arranges field, gymnasium and aquatics center practice schedules, including arrangements for summer recreation programs and non-school use of playing fields and facilities Recruits, screens, interviews and recommends prospective coaches Makes coaching assignment recommendations Supervises and evaluates coaching staff and other athletic personnel Performs other duties as assignedWhat We Offer:
As a contracted employee, this position is assigned to work 228 days per year and 8 hours per day. Salary details are available within theSASO/SAST
Agreement Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development TheSASO/SAST
agreement and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.Position Type:
