Job Description

Summary of Position The Student Advisor advises students of degree requirements, monitors their academic performance and attendance, assists them in overcoming any obstacles that may interfere with their ability to earn a degree, and interacts with faculty. This is an in-person, full-time, year-round position. Supervision Received The Student Advisor is supervised by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Essential Job Functions 1. Work collaboratively with department chairs, faculty, and administrative department managers to identify strategies to assist students to persist to each upcoming academic term. 2. Monitor individual student attendance and degree progress in assigned academic programs and coordinate outreach to students via phone calls, e-mails and classroom visits. 3. Assist students in the course registration process and course selection. 4. Complete degree audits for assigned students. 5. Meet individually with students to provide guidance and information, and to make any necessary referrals to campus resources. 6. Facilitate requests for, and provision of, approved accommodations for students. 7. Make in-class presentations to students in assigned academic programs to increase awareness of the services provided through the Office of Student Support Services. 8. When students allow disclosure of their educational records, speak with their parents about their progress. 9. Oversee and guide students in resolution of behavioral concerns and conduct matters as identified by faculty and staff. 10. Conduct student conduct meetings when students have been charged with violating NEIT's Student Conduct Policy. 11. Participate in university events, such as Tech Nite, Welcome Day, Move-In Day, Orientations, and Commencement. 12. Additional duties, projects and responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President for Student Affairs. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate effectively with students.
  • Ability to be collaborative and build effective relationships with colleagues and support staff.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work some evening hours and weekends. Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, college student development, counseling or related field required.
