Staff The Office of First Year Experience is hiring for a First Year Advisor. The selected candidate will collaborate with Faculty and Staff to assist college students with their development and achieve academic and career goals by cultivating good study habits and student progress. The First Year Advisor helps students achieve educational goals by working closely with first year students to select courses, identify strengths, and choose a major.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Build rapport with students
  • Help students identify strengths and weaknesses and assist with setting academic and career goals
  • Develop strategic study habits and other skills to ensure success
  • Analyze data and track student progress towards goals
  • Connect students with additional resources as needed
  • Coordinate and present academic workshops
  • Manage, respond, and collect data for the Beacon Alerts
  • Register incoming Freshmen
  • Assist with Mentor Collective data information
  • Assist with New Student Orientation
  • Assist with Fall Convocation
  • Provide counseling to students
  • Assist with all other duties assigned by the Assistant Director of First Year Experience and the Executive Director of First Year Experience.
Minimum Requirements for Entry into
Position:
  • Must have a bachelor's degree in education or related field.
  • More education or experience in education or counseling may be preferred.
Preferred Requirements for Entry into
Position:
A desire to help students succeed. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Willingness to collaborate and build rapport with students. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Familiarity with the processes, financial aid, and student resources. Ability to motivate students. Skill in using office equipment and technology, including computers and related software, such such as word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and the ability to master new technologies. Ability to handle confidential information
