POSITION PURPOSE

Under limited supervision, administers the District's athletic program; selects, organizes and supervises the coaches and sports programs at all schools; serves as coach, if appropriate; oversees athletic program budgeting and facilities maintenance; performs related professional, administrative and supervisory work as assigned. Reports to the assigned Principal.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administers the District's athletic program, ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations, and standards of safety. Supervises the work of coaching and support staff; supervisory duties include instructing, assigning and planning work, evaluating work, maintaining standards, allocating personnel, coordinating activities, acting on employee problems, selecting new employees, and recommending employee disciplinary action as appropriate. Offers advice and assistance as needed. Provides for adequate staff training and development opportunities. Develops and administers athletic program budget planning, payroll and financial management activities. Oversees the maintenance of athletic fields and facilities; ensures the proper preparation of athletic fields for play; coordinates event security. Coordinates scheduling and ticket sales for all sporting events; coordinates the work of game officials; coordinates the preparation and distribution of annual football programs. Reviews and approves students' eligibility for playing various sports, in accordance with District and school policies. Coordinates transportation of athletes to and from athletic events and practices. Ensures athletes are properly insured. Monitors the physical condition of students constantly during physical activity; enforces safety rules and regulations. Encourages academic excellence of student athletes through enrichment programs.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a degree in physical education, sports education or related field supplemented by four to five years of coaching and/or physical education experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must possess a valid state driver's license.

Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport. Knowledge and/or background in the assigned sport. Teaching certificate and experience preferred. Must be able to pass criminal background check. Valid drivers license.

EXPERIENCE

Must have knowledge of South Carolina High School League rules and eligibility. Must be cooperative, service-oriented, and able to work effectively with frequent interruptions. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to exercise good judgment, organize tasks, follow written and verbal directions, and communicate effectively.
