Job Description
Position Summary The Director of Student Services leads, administers, and grows American Classical Academy Rutherford's complete student support division. The Director owns the Section 504 program, chairs IEP teams, leads family meetings, coordinates all contracted service providers, and serves as the administrator over the school's special education, English learner, substitute, and academic aide staff. As ACAR grows toward a full PreK-12 program, the Director architects the two-wing structure (K-5 and 6-12) that grows with it — a ground-floor division leadership role with lasting ownership over how student services are delivered. Coordinator:
eligibility, plan development, annual reviews, and parent requests on formal timelines Chair IEP team meetings and serve as the LEA representative where qualified; schedule and lead family meetings across the caseload Coordinate contracted providers (school psychology, occupational therapy, speech/language, counseling): scope, turnaround against legal deadlines, meeting attendance, and records flow Oversee evaluation and reevaluation timelines, referral clocks, and child-find obligations, including the current pipeline of new eligibility cases Direct behavior support systems: FBAs, behavior intervention plans, RTI2-B, manifestation determination readiness, and discipline protections for identified students Support transition planning requirements as secondary grades are added Division Administration Supervise the SPED teacher and supporting aide team, the ELL teacher and aide team, the substitute schedule, and the academic aides — including assignments, schedules, and evaluations as credentialed Own service delivery schedules and duty structures; maintain the documentation systems that keep written, delivered, and reported services aligned Oversee state reporting and compliance: TN Pulse, ESL/WIDA requirements, personnel credential and licensure tracking, and authorizer alignment Steward funding documentation: unique-learning-needs coding accuracy, IDEA Part B, the TN high-cost fund, and related funding streams in partnership with the business office Build and lead the expanded student services team as the school grows, structuring the K-5 and 6-12 wings Qualifications Required Valid Tennessee educator license Tennessee Special Education certification/endorsement Qualification to serve as LEA representative for IEP teams Demonstrated experience administering special education and English learner compliance, programming, and documentation Working knowledge of IDEA and Section 504 Preferred Tennessee Instructional Leader License (PK-12), or eligibility with completion timeline Active TEAM evaluator credential (enables immediate supervision of certified staff) School counseling endorsement Secondary-grades administrative experience (supports the 612 wing) Charter school leadership experience Familiarity with Tennessee charter authorization requirements Ed.S or Ed.
