Teacher Salary Scale Job Summary and Purpose This position trains, observes, and monitors 504 coordinators at each building. This position directly supports the implementation of 504 plans and skills required to manage 504 plan management. Work Objectives/Essential Functions Develops and implements annual timelines of professional growth activities and training associated with building-level 504 Coordinators. Collaborates with building-level administrators and 504 Coordinators to help support 504 plan managers with oversight of 504 plans and conducting 504 meetings. Participates in initial evaluation, reevaluation, eligibility and/or 504 plan meetings for students with 504s. Provides case consultation to building-level teams through observing, attending, and supporting meetings as requested and needed. Makes recommendations and conducts follow-up meetings on cases for students placed throughout the School Division. Participates in crisis planning, incident reports, suspensions, and other discipline matters involving students with 504 plans, in consultation with the Director and/or Assistant Director of student services and special education. Collaborates with the Director and Assistant Director of student services and special education to work through 504 grievances. Provides ongoing training for general and special education teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, and related service providers serving students with 504 plans. Supports 504 processes within assigned schools. Utilizes a variety of appropriate materials and resources when training staff and students. Education and Experience Education Attainment (Required): Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Special Education or related field. Education Attainment (Preferred): Relevant Experience (Required): Four (4) years of experience working with 504 plans or IEPs. Relevant Experience (Preferred): Industry Licensure or Certifications (Required): Must hold or be eligible for a valid Virginia Teaching License. Industry Licensure or Certifications (Preferred): Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the 504 process and current legal mandates as related to section 504. Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices and methodologies. Knowledge of classroom management strategies appropriate to the learning situation. Ability to work cooperatively with the total staff. Ability to relate positively to parents and other community representatives. Ability to demonstrate appropriate use of written and verbal communication; thorough knowledge of English grammar and usage. Ability to demonstrate effective positive behavioral support and practices. Ability to assess individual staff and student needs and performance. Ability to address criticism in an appropriate manner and develop constructive outcomes.
