Assistant Athletic Director / Head Varsity Baseball Coach (Part-Time, Seasonal) Massanutten Academy Woodstock, Virginia Position Overview Massanutten Academy is seeking an energetic, organized, and student-centered Assistant Athletic Director / Head Varsity Baseball Coach to support the Academy's athletic program while leading our varsity baseball team. This seasonal, part-time position combines athletic department operations with coaching responsibilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of athletic events while developing a competitive baseball program that emphasizes athletic excellence, leadership, character, teamwork, and academic achievement. Essential ResponsibilitiesAssistant Athletic Director Working under the direction of the Athletic Director, the successful candidate will: Assist with game-day operations, event management, and athletic facility setup and breakdown. Coordinate transportation, scheduling logistics, equipment inventory, and uniform distribution. Support student-athlete eligibility tracking, required documentation, and athletic records. Assist with communication between coaches, athletes, parents, and school administration. Help maintain athletic facilities, prepare playing fields, and organize equipment storage. Provide administrative support for athletic department operations and special events. Perform additional duties as assigned by the Athletic Director. Head Varsity Baseball Coach The Head Baseball Coach will be responsible for all aspects of the varsity baseball program, including: Planning and conducting effective practices, games, and team activities. Developing practice plans and implementing competitive game strategies. Teaching and developing baseball fundamentals and advanced skills, including: Hitting Pitching Fielding Baserunning Situational awareness Evaluating talent, conducting tryouts, selecting team members, and supporting individual player development. Building a positive team culture centered on integrity, discipline, sportsmanship, accountability, and academic success. Maintaining consistent communication with student-athletes, parents, faculty, and school leadership. Ensuring compliance with all Academy, conference, and athletic association rules, policies, and safety standards. Managing baseball equipment, uniforms, and program inventory. Attending coaches' meetings, professional development opportunities, and athletic department functions.
Qualifications Preferred candidates will possess:
Previous coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or comparable competitive level. Strong knowledge of baseball instruction, player development, and game strategy. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes from diverse backgrounds. Commitment to fostering sportsmanship, leadership, and academic excellence. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as required during the season. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications Collegiate playing or coaching experience. Experience assisting with athletic administration or event management. Experience working in an independent school, boarding school, or educational environment. Why Join Massanutten Academy?
