Job Description A K-5 English Language Arts (ELA) teacher instructs elementary students in foundational literacy skills, including phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing. They create engaging, standards-aligned lessons, assess student progress, differentiate instruction for diverse learners, and maintain a positive classroom environment, often collaborating with families and colleagues. Key Responsibilities Demonstrates high levels of instructional expertise and content mastery. Leads students to high academic achievement through rigorous, targeted, and differentiated instruction. Designs and delivers engaging instruction that addresses a full range of student needs and learning styles. Develops and uses formal and informal assessments to measure student mastery. Uses data to drive and adjust instruction. Holds students accountable to high academic and behavioral expectations. Aligns classroom practices and routines to an achievement-oriented culture. Fosters a safe environment that encourages curiosity, academic risk-taking, accountability, and collaboration. General Establishes and maintains professional rapport with students, staff, parents, and the community. Uses formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress. Adjusts instruction based on assessment data and student performance. Differentiation Adapts curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. Provides appropriate supports for students with learning disabilities and English Language Learners (ELL). Environment & Management Establishes a positive, inclusive, and safe classroom environment. Implements consistent and effective behavior management strategies. Promotes respect, responsibility, and student engagement. Communication & Collaboration Maintains regular communication with parents regarding student progress. Collaborates with colleagues and administrators to improve instructional practices. Works cooperatively with school staff to support student achievement. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or English. Valid Arkansas certification/licensure for elementary education (K-5 or K-6). Knowledge of child development, reading pedagogy, and literacy development. Key Skills Strong communication and classroom management skills. Ability to engage young learners through varied instructional methods (e.g., read-aloud, writing workshops). Proficiency with educational technology.
