An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Job Qualifications:
Arizona Elementary Teacher Certification Required. SEI endorsement preferred.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Valid IVP Level One AZ Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
Employment Information:
2026-27 school year; 194 work days (216 day teacher calendar)

July 8, 2026 (New Teachers) Salary link: Certified
Future Requirement:
Literacy Endorsement (unless you hold a Reading K-8, Reading K-12 or Reading Specialist K-12 endorsement)
Timeline:
Teachers who were certified on or before 8/1/2025 have until 8/1/2028 to obtain the literacy endorsement. Teachers who certify after 8/1/2025 will have 3 years from certificate issuance to obtain the literacy endorsement. Teachers who graduate from AZ colleges in 2025 should have completed the coursework and should have the certificate on their licenses.
