What they do
An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

California Multiple Subjects Credential Credential Copy English Learner Authorization Letter of Introduction Letter(s) of Recommendation (Three recent letters (Last 2 years)) Resume Multiple Subject Teaching Credential - General Subjects Requirements / Qualifications California Multiple Subjects Credential Credential Copy English Learner Authorization Letter of Introduction Letter(s) of Recommendation (Three recent letters (Last 2 years)) Resume Multiple Subject Teaching Credential - General Subjects Comments and Other Information Education Code section 48000(g) requires credentialed teachers who are first assigned to a TK classroom after July 1, 2015 to have one of the following by August 1, 2023:- At least 24 units in early childhood education, or childhood development, or both
- Professional experience in a classroom setting with preschool age children comparable to the 24 units of education described in bullet 1 (comparability determined by the local employing agency)
- Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing Note, any teacher who is or was assigned to teach TK, or a combination of kindergarten and TK, on or before July 1, 2015, is "grandfathered in" to teach TK without having to meet the additional unit requirement for TK teachers set forth in Education Code section 48000(g).
