Job Description

Monday Lead Teacher — Nature-Based Elementary Program Sunrise School of Ormond Beach | Ormond Beach, FL Mondays only | 8:30 AM-2:30 PM Ages 6-10 | Children attend 9:00 AM-2:00 PM $25-$35/hour, based on experience and qualifications Established curriculum provided Miss teaching—but not everything that came with traditional teaching? Sunrise School of Ormond Beach is looking for an experienced teacher to lead our Rooted Earth Mondays program for homeschoolers ages 6-10. This could be a wonderful fit for a former classroom teacher who is now raising or homeschooling their own children, a retired or semi-retired educator, or simply a great teacher who would love to teach one meaningful day each week .
WHAT IS SUNRISE?
Sunrise is a small, Waldorf-inspired outdoor school located on an eight-acre farm campus in Ormond Beach. If Waldorf education is new to you, that's okay— Waldorf training is not required for this position. Our approach is screen-free, relationship-centered, creative, and experiential. We combine strong academics with storytelling, art, movement, practical skills, meaningful work, and lots of time in nature. There is no standardized testing or teaching to the test. We're looking for a good, solid educator who is curious enough to learn a different way of teaching.
WHAT WILL YOU TEACH?
Rooted Earth is an interdisciplinary Monday program combining academics with hands-on, nature-based learning. A typical day may include storytelling, writing or journaling, math or geography, nature study, art, gardening, cooking, movement, games, and outdoor exploration. The foundational curriculum is already written. You will not be expected to create an entire program from scratch. Your job is to prepare the lessons, bring them to life, adapt them to your group, and bring your own creativity and experience to the program.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
First and foremost, we need someone who knows how to hold a class. You should be warm and playful while maintaining strong, healthy boundaries. You should be able to confidently lead a mixed-age group, follow through on expectations, manage group dynamics, and remain steady when children test limits. We also want someone who is fun, curious, flexible, and willing to grow. You should be willing to play games, tell stories, get your hands dirty, try unfamiliar teaching methods, and learn alongside us. Reliability matters tremendously. Monday is your program, and our children, families, and team need to know they can count on you to arrive on time, prepared, and ready to lead.
YOU NEED TO LOVE THE OUTDOORS.
And we really mean that. Our campus is predominantly outdoors. You'll experience beautiful Florida mornings beneath the trees—and also heat, humidity, rain, mud, mosquitoes, spiders, frogs, and lizards. We're looking for someone who genuinely likes being outside , whether that means hiking, gardening, camping, kayaking, surfing, spending time at the beach, or simply feeling happiest in nature. If a frog hops through your lesson, we'd prefer that your instinct is to investigate it with the children rather than run from it.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Four-year bachelor's degree Current OR previously held/expired teaching certification Previous professional classroom teaching experience Strong classroom-management skills Reliability, punctuality, organization, and strong work ethic Comfort spending most of the day outdoors Especially valuable: Elementary teaching experience Homeschooling experience Experience with mixed-age groups Nature-based or outdoor education experience Interests in art, storytelling, music, gardening, cooking, movement, or hands-on learning Waldorf experience is not required. We're much more interested in finding an excellent teacher who is curious and willing to learn.
SCHEDULE & PAY
Mondays | 8:30 AM-2:30 PM Children attend 9:00 AM-2:00 PM . Paid time before and after the program is provided for preparation, setup, reset, and planning. $25-$35/hour depending on experience and qualifications. If you've been missing the best parts of teaching—the children, creativity, discovery, and those moments when learning really comes alive—but haven't wanted to return to a conventional classroom, this might be your Monday. Please email Ms. Jenn at hello@sunriseschooloformondbeach.com with your résumé and a brief introduction telling us about your teaching experience and what draws you to this kind of work.
Pay:
$25.00 - $35.00 per hour Expected hours: 6.0 per week
Work Location:
In person
