That is Odyssey Atlanta. We are seeking dynamic elementary educators who believe young people are capable of far more than completing worksheets or memorizing answers. At Odyssey, scholars are invited to see themselves as thinkers, storytellers, designers, mathematicians, researchers, and problem-solvers—and exceptional teachers help make that possible. Odyssey Atlanta is a transformational academic enrichment program serving motivated scholars from Atlanta Public Schools and the greater Atlanta community. For more than 20 years, Odyssey has created joyful, challenging summer learning experiences designed to expand students' ambitions and empower them on a successful journey through college and a fulfilling career. The Elementary Experience At the elementary level, Odyssey lays the foundation for lifelong learning by nurturing curiosity, identity, voice, and responsibility. Our curriculum introduces rising 3rd-5th grade scholars to project-based learning in ways that are age-appropriate, joyful, interdisciplinary, and connected to the world around them. Literacy and mathematics are not taught in isolation. Scholars read, write, calculate, question, research, design, discuss, build, revise, and create as they investigate meaningful problems and ideas. Across the Elementary Division, learning is grounded in three broad commitments: Identity & Belonging | Civic Stewardship | Community Well-Being and Belonging Individual projects and driving questions are developed and refined collaboratively, giving teachers opportunities to bring their own creativity, expertise, and ideas to the Odyssey experience. What You'll Do As an Odyssey Summer Enrichment Teacher, you will create the kind of classroom where scholars are excited to learn, explore, and take on new challenges.
You will:
Design and facilitate engaging, interdisciplinary project-based learning experiences that integrate literacy, mathematics, science, technology, engineering, the arts, and age-appropriate financial literacy Help scholars strengthen essential reading, writing, communication, and mathematical skills while applying those skills to authentic questions and challenges Use inquiry, visible-thinking routines, discussion, collaboration, experimentation, and hands-on learning to make thinking visible Guide scholars from curiosity and investigation to meaningful products, presentations, and culminating experiences Extend learning beyond the classroom through field experiences during weeks 2-4 that connect scholars' projects to people, places, and ideas across the Atlanta community Build a classroom culture where scholars feel known, challenged, supported, and confident taking intellectual risks Collaborate with fellow educators, Odyssey leadership, community partners, and field experts to enrich scholar learning Provide opportunities for scholar voice, choice, creativity, and reflection throughout the learning process Use assessment data and daily observations to respond to scholars' academic needs and document growth Support Odyssey's expectations for student safety, behavior, technology use, field experiences, and community engagement Bring energy, professionalism, flexibility, and joy to our summer learning community Who Thrives at Odyssey? We are looking for educators who are energized by possibility. Strong Odyssey teachers are curious themselves. They enjoy collaborating, experimenting with new ideas, making adjustments when something is not working, and finding creative ways to help children make connections. You may be a great fit if you: Believe deeply in the potential of every scholar and maintain high expectations while providing meaningful support Know how to build authentic relationships with elementary-aged students Understand that rigorous learning and joyful learning can and should exist together Are excited about interdisciplinary and project-based teaching rather than relying solely on traditional instructional approaches Can create a vibrant, inclusive, student-centered learning environment Value student voice, inquiry, critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity Are comfortable using digital tools to enhance teaching and learning Communicate exceptionally well with students, families, colleagues, and community partners Are reflective, resourceful, flexible, and eager to grow alongside other educators Have demonstrated success supporting the academic growth of students from historically underserved communities Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, Education, or a related field Experience teaching elementary-aged students, preferably in grades 3-5 Minimum of two years of teaching experience preferred Current Georgia teaching certification preferred Current experience teaching in an accredited Georgia public, charter, or independent school preferred Experience with project-based learning, interdisciplinary instruction, STEAM, literacy, mathematics, or inquiry-based teaching is highly valued More Than a Summer Job Odyssey is intentionally different. Our teachers have the opportunity to step outside some of the constraints of the traditional school year and teach creatively, collaborate deeply, experiment thoughtfully, and help young people discover what they are capable of becoming. Each summer, Odyssey scholars build skills, relationships, confidence, and a stronger sense of their own possibility. If you are an educator who wants to spend part of your summer building something meaningful with children—not simply delivering lessons to them—we are looking forward to meeting you.
