Sylvia's Kiddieland Learning Center Position Summary Sylvia's Kiddieland Learning Center is seeking a caring, dependable, organized, and enthusiastic Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher who is passionate about preparing young children for kindergarten and lifelong learning. The Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, developmentally appropriate, and engaging classroom environment for Pre-K students. Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) guidelines, Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS), and the policies and procedures of Sylvia's Kiddieland Learning Center. The Lead Teacher is responsible for the overall management of the Pre-K classroom, including instruction, supervision, assessment, documentation, family communication, classroom organization, and collaboration with the Pre-K Assistant Teacher and center administration. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher will: Plan, prepare, and implement developmentally appropriate daily lessons and learning experiences aligned with Georgia Pre-K requirements and GELDS. Provide instruction and learning opportunities that support language and literacy, mathematics, science, social studies, creative development, physical development, and social-emotional development. Maintain an engaging classroom with clearly defined learning areas, age-appropriate materials, children's work, and activities that encourage exploration and independence. Develop and follow an appropriate daily classroom schedule that provides a balance of teacher-directed activities, child-directed learning, small-group instruction, large-group instruction, outdoor play, meals, rest, and transitions. Maintain active supervision of children at all times, including in the classroom, hallways, playground, during meals, restroom breaks, arrival, dismissal, and transitions. Maintain accurate daily attendance and required classroom records. Observe and document each child's development and progress throughout the school year. Complete required child assessments, documentation, portfolios, and developmental records within established deadlines. Use assessment information to individualize instruction and provide additional support or challenges based on each child's developmental needs. Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, staff, and center information. Provide positive classroom guidance using developmentally appropriate behavior-management techniques. Build children's independence, problem-solving abilities, self-regulation, communication skills, and positive relationships with peers and adults. Maintain a classroom environment that is welcoming, organized, sanitary, safe, and ready for learning each day. Complete required cleaning, sanitizing, and classroom-maintenance responsibilities. Monitor classroom materials and supplies and notify administration when additional resources are needed. Use center resources responsibly, including classroom supplies, paper products, cleaning materials, food-service supplies, and educational materials. Work collaboratively with the Pre-K Assistant Teacher and provide appropriate direction regarding classroom routines, activities, supervision, and responsibilities. Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents and guardians regarding their child's progress, classroom experiences, concerns, and developmental needs. Participate in required parent conferences and maintain appropriate documentation. Immediately communicate injuries, illnesses, behavioral concerns, safety concerns, suspected abuse or neglect, and other significant matters to administration according to center and state procedures. Follow all health, safety, emergency, transportation, playground, meal-service, and supervision procedures. Participate in staff meetings, planning meetings, professional development, Pre-K training, and other required center or DECAL activities. Maintain all required credentials, training hours, certifications, and GaPDS information. Arrive on time and remain prepared to begin assigned duties at the scheduled start time. Follow Sylvia's Kiddieland Learning Center's dress code, attendance expectations, employee policies, and professional standards. Perform other duties reasonably assigned by the Director or administrative team that support the successful operation of the classroom and center. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must meet the current credential requirements established by Bright from the Start/DECAL to serve as a Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher.
The successful candidate must:
Meet DECAL's current educational and credential requirements for a Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher. Maintain an active Georgia Professional Development System (GaPDS) profile and be eligible to serve in the Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher role. Complete all required Georgia Pre-K training and professional development. Meet all Bright from the Start/DECAL child-care licensing requirements applicable to the position. Successfully complete all required criminal records/background checks. Maintain required CPR/First Aid and other center or state-required certifications. Demonstrate knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices. Be able to communicate effectively with children, families, coworkers, and administration. Be dependable, professional, organized, patient, nurturing, and able to work as part of a team. Be comfortable using computers or tablets for lesson planning, assessment, documentation, training, and required Georgia Pre-K systems. Preferred Qualifications Preference may be given to candidates who have: Previous experience as a Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher. Experience working with children ages four to five. Knowledge of GELDS and Georgia Pre-K classroom expectations. Experience with child assessment and documentation systems. Strong classroom-management and family-communication skills. Experience creating engaging, hands-on learning experiences for young children. Physical Requirements The employee must be able to perform the physical responsibilities associated with caring for and supervising young children, including: Sitting and working on the floor with children. Standing and walking for extended periods. Bending, kneeling, reaching, and moving throughout the classroom and playground. Assisting children during routines and emergencies. Lifting or assisting children when necessary for their safety and care. Participating in indoor and outdoor activities in varying weather conditions. Children should enter a room that feels safe, welcoming, structured, and exciting. Families should feel confident that their child is being cared for, challenged, encouraged, and prepared for kindergarten. The Lead Teacher should model patience, teamwork, professionalism, consistency, and genuine care for every child. The Lead Teacher is expected to work closely with the Director, Assistant Director, administrative staff, Assistant Teacher, families, and other center employees to maintain the high-quality learning environment expected at Sylvia's Kiddieland Learning Center.
