We are looking for an educator who understands that Pre-K is more than childcare—it is the foundation for a child's future educational success. The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education, confident in leading a classroom, organized with required documentation, and committed to creating a safe, structured, engaging, and nurturing learning environment. The Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher will be responsible for the overall operation of the assigned Pre-K classroom, including curriculum implementation, classroom management, child assessment, documentation, active supervision, family communication, and leadership of the Pre-K Assistant Teacher. This position must meet all applicable requirements of Georgia's Pre-K Program and Bright from the
Start:
Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL). Key Responsibilities Plan and implement developmentally appropriate lessons aligned with Georgia Pre-K requirements and GELDS. Create engaging learning experiences in language and literacy, math, science, social studies, creative development, physical development, and social-emotional development. Prepare children academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally for kindergarten. Maintain a structured, welcoming, organized, and engaging Pre-K classroom. Maintain active supervision of children at all times. Follow required classroom schedules, routines, ratios, health procedures, and safety requirements. Observe, assess, and document children's developmental progress. Complete required assessments, portfolios, attendance records, lesson plans, and Georgia Pre-K documentation by established deadlines. Use assessment information to individualize instruction according to each child's developmental needs. Provide positive, developmentally appropriate classroom guidance and behavior support. Encourage independence, communication, problem-solving, self-regulation, and positive peer relationships. Communicate professionally with parents and guardians regarding student progress, classroom experiences, and concerns. Participate in parent-teacher conferences and maintain required documentation. Work collaboratively with and provide classroom direction to the Pre-K Assistant Teacher. Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary, safe, and learning-ready classroom. Participate in required staff meetings, Georgia Pre-K training, professional development, and DECAL activities. Follow all YKCLA policies regarding attendance, professionalism, confidentiality, dress code, child safety, and employee conduct. Perform additional duties reasonably assigned by center administration. Required Qualifications Candidates must meet current Bright from the Start/DECAL eligibility requirements to serve as a Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher.
Applicants must also:
Maintain an active Georgia Professional Development System (GaPDS) profile. Meet current Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher education and credential requirements. Meet applicable DECAL child-care licensing requirements. Successfully complete required criminal background checks. Complete all required Georgia Pre-K training and professional development. Maintain required CPR/First Aid and other applicable certifications. Demonstrate knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices. Be comfortable using computers or tablets for lesson planning, assessments, documentation, training, and required Georgia Pre-K systems. Demonstrate dependable attendance, professionalism, organization, patience, and teamwork. Preferred Qualifications Previous Georgia Pre-K Lead Teacher experience. Experience working with children ages 4-5. Knowledge of GELDS and Georgia Pre-K classroom requirements. Experience completing child assessments, portfolios, and developmental documentation. Strong classroom-management skills. Strong parent and family communication skills. Experience working effectively with an Assistant Teacher. Experience developing creative, hands-on learning experiences. Physical Requirements Candidates must be able to perform the physical responsibilities associated with caring for and supervising young children, including standing and walking for extended periods, sitting on the floor, bending, kneeling, reaching, assisting children during routines or emergencies, and participating in indoor and outdoor activities.
