Teaching Full Job Description Elementary Reading Teacher Location:
Ekstrand Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in literacy skills and increase reading capabilities through literacy materials, reading programs, and a wide variety of resources and collaboration with parents and other teachers. The reading teacher is responsible for providing individual or small group instruction to students. Addresses specific educational needs of individual students and creates a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment; and provides feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. Essential Functions Provides high quality instruction to individual students and small groups. Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level. Collaborates with teachers, administration, and families to help identify best practices for individual and small groups of students. Uses identified research-based interventions focuses specifically on individual student needs. Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress. Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress. Communicates with teachers, administration, and families regarding student progress. Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups. Participates in meetings with teachers, administration, and families to discuss student placement and progress. Provides diagnostic assessments for students as needed. Provides input for program development. Supports implementation of assessment tools and data management systems. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Travel Requirements Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiates instruction based upon student learning styles. Knowledge of elementary school curriculum and concepts. Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans. Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed. Ability to organize and coordinate work. Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents. Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Works in standard office and school building environments. Working indoors in classrooms, but sometimes teaching outdoors or supervising playgrounds. Working closely with young children. Exposure to diseases and infections, such as colds and influenza. Exposure to loud sounds and high noise levels.
Qualifications Profile Certification/License:
Iowa State Certification as an Elementary Teacher Reading Endorsement Education Bachelors from an accredited college or university in Elementary Education or related discipline applicable to teaching assignment. Masters Degree in related area preferred. Experience Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade levels a plus.
