An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.
$25-$32/hour, based on experience About the Role LEAP is looking for a warm, energetic, and dependable Kindergarten Room Lead to lead our kindergarten group in our afterschool program in Lincoln, MA. This is a hands-on role for someone who genuinely enjoys working with young children and knows how to create the right balance of fun, structure, creativity, and calm at the end of the school day. Our Kindergarten Room Lead will take ownership of the daily experience for our youngest students—helping them transition at the end of the school day, building relationships, planning engaging activities, and creating an environment where every child feels safe, included, and excited to come to LEAP. What You'll Do Lead the kindergarten room during daily afterschool programming. Build strong, positive relationships with children and create a welcoming sense of community. Plan and lead age-appropriate activities including arts and crafts, games, outdoor play, movement, STEM activities, imaginative play, and special projects. Create a consistent daily routine while recognizing that kindergarteners sometimes need flexibility, downtime, or a change of pace. Supervise children closely and maintain a safe environment at all times. Support snack time, transitions, cleanup, bathroom breaks, indoor/outdoor activities, and dismissal. Use positive and developmentally appropriate approaches to behavior management and conflict resolution. Encourage children to practice independence, kindness, problem-solving, and cooperation. Help children navigate friendships and the social-emotional challenges that come with starting kindergarten. Communicate positively and professionally with parents and caregivers at pickup. Maintain an organized, inviting, and well-stocked classroom. Communicate incidents, injuries, behavioral concerns, or other important information to LEAP leadership. Collaborate with other LEAP staff to create a consistent, high-quality experience across the program. Who We're Looking For You might be a great fit if you are: Great with kids. Qualifications Previous experience working with children strongly preferred. Experience with kindergarten or early elementary-age children is a plus. Previous experience in an afterschool program, camp, childcare center, school, recreation program, or similar environment is preferred. Must be able to meet all Massachusetts and LEAP background-check and program requirements. CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification. Compensation $25-$32 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
