Our school is fully inclusive and diverse. SSCPS is a K-12 public charter school that serves 1,165 students. As a public school we are tuition-free. Our students come from over thirty-one communities along the South Shore; the top three districts our students come to us from are Brockton, Randolph, and Weymouth. Our families bring a panoply of cultural and racial diversity to our community, representing many different countries of origin with over 40 different languages spoken at home. At SSCPS, we take pride in our unique curriculum designed to prepare students for higher education while offering them an incredibly diverse and welcoming learning environment. SSCPS teachers are expected to cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships with families from diverse backgrounds. Faculty remain dedicated to supporting student achievement and fostering well-being every day. Reports to:
- Subject Area Curriculum Coordinator-Principal Full Time Status = 100% FTE = 40 hours per weekEssential Job Functions
- Supports the philosophy and mission of the school as well as the schools projects/FITS/workshops and goals
- Plans, prepares, organizes, and delivers student learning experiences
- Motivates, guides, and directs the students in study skills, social emotional learning, and academic learning.
- Proposes new ideas to the administration and helps to implement and evaluate existing ones
- Is motivated towards professional development and growth in the teaching profession
- Meets all the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regarding teacher credentials to teach in a Massachusetts Public Charter School.
- Faculty members are expected to be available for all assignments by 7:45 a.m. and to remain in the building until 3:30 p.m. If the need to leave the building arises, faculty must notify the appropriate administrator or Assistant Principal and sign out of the building.
- Should a faculty member need to be absent from school, the Principals Administrative Assistant must be notified following the Calling in Absent policy and procedures that are outlined in the Employee Guidebook. Teachers should supply assignments on Google Classroom, or indicate the locations of the substitute packet materials.
- Faculty are expected to be in attendance 2-3 days prior to the opening of the school year and be available or on call five days after the completion of exams after the years close
- Teachers should follow the curriculum established by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and the grade/department
- Personalities, grades, and student-teacher relationships or interactions are not matters of public information
- Student information is private and may be released only according to federal, state, and school regulations in consultation with the Principal. The teacher possesses the right and the responsibility to review the records of all students assigned to his/her classes. The teacher may not review the records of other students
- In discussing any issue relating to the school, its policy, or its program, the teacher maintains a professional manner. It is reasonable and ethical to expect that the teacher exhibits professionalism in all matters relating to the school
- Faculty members are expected to follow the dress code as outlined within the Employee Guidelines.
- A teacher is expected to attend faculty meetings (level/department/curriculum/full faculty meetings) and parent-teacher conferences, school sponsored professional development activities, one open house, and contribute to the development of the curriculum and departments programs in conjunction with school administration.
- Teachers are expected to engage in other supervisory duties, i.e. recess/lunch, arrival/dismissal, hallway/bathroom, studies, class, or classes for an absent teacher, as directed by the Principal
- Faculty members always aid in the supervision of the students during class hours and after-school activities. Students must be under direct supervision during the school day
- Every full-time faculty member is expected to chaperone or assist with at least one extra-curricular event a year.
- Teachers will maintain a record of student grades, communicate with students and parents, and develop progress reports on time at the end of each term
- Teachers are expected to arrive on time for classes and teach the entire duration of the class. Business not directly related to the class (subject) should be conducted at some other time
- Teachers must take attendance for each class period, check it with the daily absentee list, report immediately any missing student, and document attendance for each report period
- Faculty must review with students all publications issued to students (i.e. Student Handbook)
- All teachers must prepare a Substitute Packet or Google Classroom post of work for each of the classes they teach in the event of an unexpected absence
- The normal teaching load of a teacher will allow a teacher one preparation period a day. Every effort will be made to ensure this happens, but within the limits of a small school this may not always be possible and proctoring duties may be requested as needed by the level
- Each teacher is expected to lead or co-lead a Project or Workshop in accordance with the schools mission. However, from time to time, a teacher may be asked to perform other duties in lieu of leading a project/workshop/FIT
- If a students behavior interrupts the learning process, the teacher sends the student to the Assistant Principal. The matter will be discussed as soon as convenient. A student is never asked to leave a room unless the student has a note, a destination, and is always under adult supervision
- Field trips must be approved by the Principal (see application form) at least two weeks in advance.

The salary range for teachers new to SSCPS is $56059- 102687 and is determined by the candidates prior years of full-time teaching experience.
