What they do
An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Laurel School District Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required; college level coursework preferred. Applicant must demonstrate a level of knowledge and/or experience appropriate to the position. Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, parents, and community members in a professional manner. Ability to follow oral and written instructions with limited supervision. Ability to adjust and adapt to a multitude of situations in a school environment. Ability to effectively delivery lesson plan(s) while maintaining classroom management. Ability to effectively communicate in English (read, write, speak). Bi-lingual substitute candidates desired. Ability to perform the following actions with full range of motion and manual dexterity: bending, moderate lifting, twisting, carrying and moving objects, and reaching. Favorable child protection registry check for the candidate(s) offered employment required. There is a $14.00 fee that is paid by the applicant. Tuberculin test required. There is a fee that is paid by the applicant. Participation in direct deposit required.Rates:
As per State compensation guidelines: Class A-Licensed/certified teacher $179 per day; Class B- Bachelor's Degree $143 per day; Class C-GED or High School Diploma $113 per day.
