Position Summary
Mountain Valley Community School is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Grade 5 Classroom Teacher who is committed to fostering academic excellence while building meaningful relationships with students and families. The successful candidate will create a positive, inclusive learning environment where all students are challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential.
The Grade 5 teacher will provide high-quality instruction across the elementary curriculum, utilizing HMH Into Readingfor literacy instruction and Bridges in Mathematics for mathematics instruction. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues to implement evidence-based instructional practices, analyze student data, and ensure every student experiences growth and success.
Essential Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction aligned with the Maine Learning Results.
Implement HMH Into Reading to provide comprehensive literacy instruction, including reading, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and foundational comprehension skills.
Utilize Bridges in Mathematics to deliver rigorous, conceptual mathematics instruction that promotes problem-solving, mathematical discourse, and real-world application.
Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all learners.
Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and inform instructional decisions.
Foster a classroom culture built on respect, responsibility, collaboration, and high expectations.
Develop strong partnerships with families through ongoing communication regarding student progress and classroom activities.
Collaborate effectively with grade-level teammates, special education staff, interventionists, specialists, and administrators.
Participate actively in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), professional development, and school improvement initiatives.
Support the implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
Integrate technology to enhance teaching, learning, and student engagement.
Maintain accurate student records and complete required documentation in a timely manner.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications
Maine Department of Education Elementary Teacher Certification (020) or eligibility for certification.
Knowledge of elementary literacy instruction and best practices in reading and writing.
Experience with or willingness to learn HMH Into Reading and Bridges in Mathematics.
Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and meeting the needs of diverse learners.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to use assessment data to drive instruction.
