Regional School Unit 57

Title:

Bench Substitute Teacher

  • Lyman Elementary School
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Ability, interest, and flexibility in working with young people.
  • Able to report to the school on short notice and teach regularly planned lessons.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with students, community, and school personnel.

Reports to: Building Administration & Central Office Staff

Job Goal:
  • To continue the educational programming at the highest possible level in the absence of the regular teacher/support staff.

This position can be posted to any school instructional setting daily, wherever a need arises.

Performance Responsibilities:
  • Report to the school at least one-half hour before school opens or as early as possible after being notified.
  • Report to the Building Administrator or School Administrative Assistant(s) to receive assignment, other duties, and substitute forms.
  • Review and follow teacher's plans and materials.
  • Maintain order in assigned classes and assist in supervising all students.
  • Maintain student respect for school property, fellow students, and staff.
  • Take attendance promptly in each class and report any student not accounted for to the office.
  • Leave significant information summarizing the day's activities.
  • Notify the office immediately of any injured or ill student.
  • Follow all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
  • Check with the office before leaving; leave completed forms with the office staff.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities that may be assigned from time to time.

The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, climb stairs, lift (ranging from 25-75 lbs depending on student size), bend, pull, push, walk, kneel, crouch, and perform other physical tasks that may be required from time to time.

Terms of Employment:

Salary, work year and working conditions to be established by the RSU 57 School Board.

Compensation:

$160/day

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board's policy on evaluation.
