An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
- Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessments
- Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
- Establish classroom structures that value positive relationships
- Support non-academic needs through the student support network district system
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development
- Prepare required reports on students and activities
- Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings
- Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents
- Establish and communicate clear goals and objectives for all learning activities

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Education
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Elementary Education endorsement
- Valid state licensing to meet Highly Qualified requirements
