To Be Determined Job Description Anchor Bay School District English Language Learner Teacher Job Posting Summary Under the supervision of the Building Principal and bilingual Supervisor, the English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher is responsible for supporting students whose primary language is not English in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The ELL teacher designs and delivers instruction that promotes language acquisition while helping students succeed academically across content areas. This role includes assessing student progress, adapting lessons to meet diverse learning needs, collaborating with classroom teachers and families, and creating an inclusive, culturally responsive learning environment that supports student achievement and confidence. Supervision Received and Exercised Receives general supervision from higher-level staff. Exercises supervision of students in the classroom to ensure behavior aligns with established school guidelines and policies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job. Plans and develops an engaging, age and developmentally appropriate course of study in the classroom, adhering to education best practices and state and school district curriculum guidelines.?? Teaches district approved curriculum.? Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulation and procedures of the school district.? Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.? Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.? Works with classroom teacher to make appropriate accommodations for students.?? Communicates regularly with parents outside a normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.? Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.? Evaluates pupils' academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports. Contacts parents at first sign of behavioral and/or academic problems.?? Develop and implement lesson plans that support language acquisition and academic achievement.? Plans and coordinates the work of paraprofessionals, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on educational (field) trips.? Provide direct instruction to English Language Learner (ELL) students in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Prepares report cards, educational records, classroom observation records, quarterly reports, and other forms. Provide feedback to the appropriate staff regarding the progress or regression of the student.?? Acts as the designated case manager of related services for students on caseload.?? Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers and exhibits of student work.? Works with other professional staff on curriculum studies and related committees.?? Actively participates in regular staff and professional development activities.?? Reviews email and voicemail communications regularly and responds as needed.?? Maintains regular and reliable in person attendance.?? Follow all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, district policies and procedures.? Conduct oneself in a professional and respectful manner at all times.?? Other duties as assigned.Qualifications Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Arts/Sciences degree in education from an accredited college/university. Licenses and Certifications Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in area of study required. Additional endorsements are preferred.?? Ongoing maintenance of all requirements regarding professional courses and in-services required.Knowledge of:
Knowledge of second language acquisition theories and instructional strategies for English Language Learners. Knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and compliance requirements related to ELL programs and services. Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and multicultural education. Knowledge of curriculum development, lesson planning, and differentiated instruction techniques. Knowledge of assessment tools and methods used to evaluate English language proficiency and academic progress. Knowledge of classroom management practices that support diverse learners and positive student engagement. Knowledge of instructional technology and educational resources that support language development. Knowledge of collaboration strategies for working effectively with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff. Knowledge of reading, writing, speaking, and listening development across grade levels. Knowledge of effective communication practices with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Understanding of student development to help support students at different stages.Ability to:
Maintain good rapport and work cooperatively and professionally with students, parents, teachers, and administration. Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom environment. Establish and maintain positive, effective relationships with students, colleagues, and parents. Utilize mathematical concepts related to students' education such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. Problem solve when needed in relation to seeking solutions to students to help identify strategies to maximize students' overall growth. Respond to emergencies effectively and follow school protocols to ensure student safety. Recognize and respond effectively to unique learning styles by adapting instructional strategies when necessary to help students grow. Speak clearly and concisely both in oral and written communication. Physical Demands The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must possess mobility to perform moderate physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in the assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment. Environmental Elements Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to communicable illnesses, blood, and body fluids. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures. Working Conditions Incumbents' work schedule will coordinate with the district instruction calendar and may at times include an irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, and evenings.
