What they do

An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Academic Year Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Education and a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate as required by MDE. Elementary K-5 All Subjects (ZG)
Endorsement Preferred:
Previous classroom teaching experience in a comparable district.

Salary/Benefits:
Commensurate with credentials and level of experience and in accordance with MPS salary schedule. Starting range $51,814.00-$75,437.00. Medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance coverage offered. Eligible for Michigan ORS retirement plan for public school employees. Paid time off includes ten (10) sick leave days, three (3) personal days, and two (2) professional improvement days.
