An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. ROLE SUMMARY
Guide a mixed-age 3-6 Primary classroom across the full Montessori curriculum — practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics, and cultural studies — protecting the three-hour work cycle and the conditions in which deep concentration becomes possible.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepare and maintain a complete, beautiful Primary environment across every curriculum area Present individualized lessons from the Montessori albums and keep accurate records of each child's progress through the sequences Protect the uninterrupted three-hour work cycle Guide the mixed-age community, including third-year (kindergarten) children in their role as classroom leaders Observe daily, and let observation rather than a fixed timetable determine what each child is ready for Partner with families through conferences and daily communication, and prepare children and families for the transition to elementary Mentor and direct an assistant teacher; maintain health, safety, and ratios
QUALIFICATIONS
Montessori Early Childhood (3-6) credential (AMI / AMS / MACTE) strongly preferred — credentialing support available for the right candidate Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred Demonstrated experience leading a 3-6 classroom and maintaining a full set of albums The patience to observe rather than intervene, and to let a child's concentration run its course
