An Elementary School Teacher teaches elementary school students, usually children ages 5 - 11 who are in kindergarten through fifth or sixth grade, in a public or private school. Teaches all subjects, including reading, writing, math, social studies and science, to one class throughout the school year. Plans curriculum and assesses student progress, manages student behavior and communicates with school parents. May specialize in teaching music, art or physical education, or teach students that are learning English, or work with students with learning disabilities or emotional and behavioral disorders.

Job Description

Primary Purpose:
Provide general education and special education students in PK with learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Develop or accommodate curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels. Work in self-contained, team, along side instructional aides.
Qualifications Education/Certification :
Bachelor's Degree from accredited university Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subjects/level assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills :
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation General knowledge of PK curriculum and instruction
Experience :
At least one year student teaching or approved internship

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom or adaptive equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint; and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards.
