NOTE:

This posting is in anticipation of an increase in student FTE at the elementary level upon the start of the school year and will only be filled if required. If FTE is not higher than anticipated, the position will be closed without being filled.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Elementary Teacher is responsible for providing a high-quality, standards-aligned instructional program that promotes academic growth, student engagement, and the social-emotional well-being of all students. The position establishes high expectations for student achievement, uses research-based instructional practices and student data to guide instruction, differentiates learning to meet individual needs, and fosters a safe and inclusive classroom environment.

The Elementary Teacher works collaboratively with colleagues, families, administrators, support staff, and community partners to support student success. The teacher actively participates in professional learning, PLC and data-team processes, and school improvement efforts while maintaining a strong commitment to continuous professional growth.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree or post-graduate work in Elementary Education. Master's degree preferred.

Valid Washington State teaching certificate with endorsement in Elementary Education (K-8)

Demonstrated understanding of research-based instructional strategies and assessment practices that support effective instruction.

Recent successful experience working with educators in demonstrating and modeling effective instructional strategies and assessment practices.

Demonstrated knowledge of needs of diverse learners and strategies for addressing these needs.

Understanding of appropriate local and state standards.

Maintain integrity of confidential information relating to students, staff and district patrons.

Evidence/demonstration of use of technology to enhance student learning or willingness to learn.

Demonstrated organizational skills and commitment to follow through on tasks.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with students, teachers, school administrators, support personnel, and community members.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

Assessing student learning multiple times throughout a lesson.

Instructing students to self-assess and monitor their own progress.

Frequently asking students to reflect on their own learning.

Using a variety of formative assessments.

Initiating communication with parents beyond the mandatory reporting requirements.

Communicating important aspects of the instructional program to parents in order to engage them with their child's education.

Consult with counselor/psychologist and designated staff to solve and plan interventions for children.

Coordinate and train paraeducators as necessary in literacy curriculum.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • May be required to travel between buildings and occasionally attend workshops and conferences with the region or state.
  • Required to work flexible hours and schedule which may include some evenings. Expected to prepare the classroom for the start of school and prepare the workspace or room for summer cleaning after the last day of school.
  • Classroom/office environment which includes frequently walking, occasional lifting, and bending, stooping, kneeling and keyboarding.
