Arizona State University Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering Teaching Professor (all ranks)
Location:
Arizona State University - Tempe Campus The Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University (ASU) and the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering seek applicants for the position of Teaching Professor (all ranks). Teaching faculty positions are non-tenure track appointments with a fixed term academic year contract. We seek applicants with a demonstrated history of university-level instruction in Biomedical Engineering and related foundational areas, including, but not limited to, applied mathematics with an emphasis on physiology for engineers, biomedical instrumentation, biomaterials, and molecular techniques. We are particularly interested in candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and student mentorship. Successful applicants will contribute to the development and delivery of innovative undergraduate and graduate curricula, support transdisciplinary education, and foster inclusive learning environments that promote student success. Faculty are expected to adopt effective, evidence-based pedagogical practices, engage in curriculum development (including online and immersive modalities), advise undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in service activities that support program growth and community engagement. While this is a teaching-focused position, candidates who engage in scholarly or use-inspired activities that enhance education and workforce development are encouraged to do so. Appointment will be at the Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or (Full) Teaching Professor rank commensurate with the candidate's experience and accomplishments, beginning August 2026. Essential Functions Contribute to curriculum development. Deliver instruction in-person and/or online. Participate in internal service.
Qualifications Required qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a field related to the stated teaching focus of this position by the time of appointment. Evidence of excellence in teaching, as appropriate to the candidate's rank Teaching experience in an undergraduate engineering program Desired qualifications: History of university-level instruction related to Biomedical Engineering undergraduate courses and basic applied mathematics with an emphasis on physiology for engineers, biomedical instrumentation, biomaterials, and/or molecular techniques. Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching that incorporates active learning and expertise in Biomedical Engineering curriculum innovation. Familiarity with the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) processes. Ideally, the position will include curating and managing interactions with external partners for student projects, including capstone design projects. The ability to manage a cell culture facility for student projects is considered a plus. Experience managing instructional prototyping resources—such as machine shop equipment and 3D printers—to support biomedical device design and fabrication for student projects will also be considered a plus.
